Historia
Susan and Carlos were unlikely friends. She was a young, overweight college professor and a bit of a trainwreck - juggling a divorce, a pack-a-day habit, and hiding empty boxes of wine under her bed. He was her boss, an Ironman triathlete, with life figured out. She was a whiner, he was a hard-ass. He had his shit together, she most assuredly did not. Trash-talking workouts, breakdowns, a devastating diagnosis - this heartwarming story of training buddies reveals a deep and abiding friendship that traversed life, sport, and everything in between.

Historia
Long distance running is much like any other fitness training. If you want to improve, you need a good plan that has a progressive nature. If you are new to this game, you need a solid foundation to build on. Having a running program is not the only thing that you need. Sound advice and running tips should be taken from someone who has "walked the walk", or in this case, "ran the run".

Not cohesive & some advice problematic
Revisado: 03-30-18
What did you like best about Marathon Training & Distance Running Tips? What did you like least?
While the author covers a good number of topics, I didn't feel there was a cohesive approach to the material, as in several instances it felt like he started to share something detailed/meaningful and then switched topics. His commentary on not needing to add salt to your diet is not only incorrect but also dangerous for some people...I know personally that Hyponatraemia is a very real threat and there are many factors such as weather, sweat rate, current level of salt in the body that should be factored in.
Would you be willing to try another book from James Atkinson? Why or why not?
No, because I didn't find this material to be cohesive enough to warrant another purchase.
What about Matt Addis’s performance did you like?
I felt he put energy into the reading in an attempt to make the material more interesting.
Could you see Marathon Training & Distance Running Tips being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Nope

Historia
What will it take to run a marathon in less than two hours? The world's fastest times for the marathon have been dropping since the distance of 26.2 miles was made official nearly one hundred years ago. But after a noticeable decline that occurred for a half century, the times, while still edging lower, have stalled several minutes north of two hours for the past decade. For the first time, 1:59 examines what it will take for an elite distance runner to go subtwo hours.

Some training tidbits, but focus is 1:59
Revisado: 01-19-17
I purchased this hoping to get quite a bit of training information from the legendary Phil Maffetone. This book is definitely focused on who and how someone might achieve the 1:59 marathon. While it had some nuggets for the a average age group runner, there were overall pretty scarce, and they weren't consolidated into a few sections that would make it easier to obtain them. It would be tough to go back into the book and find where he talked about a particular topic, like weight training.

Fear can save your life. It directs you to avoid that stranger, to leave the room, to call for help. The intuitive message of fear, together with rational principles, can help you to predict and thereby avoid personal violence. In this program Gavin de Becker, America's leading expert on predicting violent behavior, demystifies the apparently random and unpredictable nature of violence and shows you how interpersonal violence can be detected and derailed.
