Good despite little but very irritating flaws
Revisado: 02-20-25
I've been waiting for a Save The Cat for TV and this is pretty darn good. I do think it should rely primarily on TV for examples instead of film I guess to introduce people to save the cat more succinctly??(people should already be familiar with save the cat if they're reading this).
But my biggest qualm is nobody calling out his pronunciation of certain words, most notably "situation"... it is absolutely distracting and unprofessional sounding. I swear to glob I face palm every single time I hear it. I can't believe how much it actually takes away from the book for me.

I have been a selt seeking person since a small child. This feels like the new phase. I love it. Her voice and thereby being pulls you toward the peace she embodies. I recommend 1- slowing it down to whatever speed feels good because it's subtle and dense at the same time...and 2 backing up, relisting in order to digest. I'm very excited to have found this

Historia
At the tender age of 10, Fanny Price is 'adopted' by her rich relations and is removed from the poverty of her home in Portsmouth to the opulence of Mansfield Park. The transplantation is not a happy one. Dependent, helpless, neglected and forgotten, Fanny struggles to come to terms with her new life until, tested almost to the limits of endurance, she assumes her rightful role....

Mansfield Park really grows on one, especially with the help of Juliette Stevenson
Revisado: 11-26-24
In my experience Austen's most didactic, least humorous novel, rarely anyone's favorite, makes gains in my ranking with each repeated listen, helped in no small part to incomparable Juliet Stevenson.

Historia
During a canoe trip on the Danube, two men are forced to stop on an island due to the current. What was supposed to be a peaceful temporary camping experience turns into a disturbing and supernatural ordeal: the willows covering the island seem to move and whisper in the wind, giving the impression of being alive; the presence of hostile and terrifying invisible entities is perceived, casting doubt on every capacity for rational thought.

Really interesting narrator with interesting sound effects
Revisado: 10-17-24
Classic horror story with great narration and sound effects that really add spook! This was the only version, of the many out there, that felt right. Just wish I could determine who the narrator is. I would like to hear more from him and his strange half Scottish half swedish accent.

Historia
Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

One of my all-time favorite ABs... terrifying
Revisado: 07-22-24
When I first pressed play on this book I had to stooy 5 minutes in I was so scared. I didn't take it up again for a year!! and slept with the light on for weeks after finishing it.
Blatty does an absolutely brilliant job with the reading.
I think it's beautifully written and a fascinating examination of a crisis of faith and redemption, and I'm not a religious person.
People have said it's not like the movie but it is, it's just more! Blatty wrote the screenplay and it's a brilliant adaptation.
I'm revisiting it for the 3rd time....I have to take a few years btwn listens but I think I'll come back again and again.
incidentally, I heard Stephen King doesn't like the book... I'd bet my left pinkie toe he's just jealous.
lastly... I'd recommend listening to the last act during a raging thunderstorm if you can manage it :)

Changes the original text! and Toothless
Revisado: 01-08-24
The only example I have of her changing the text is when she reads Mrs. Dashwood's line as "do NOT let me hear a word of the expense" from the much funnier, sarcastic "do let me hear a word of the expense" and while it seems a minor thing, it is shows a great deal about her approach to the rest of the text, whether intentional or unintentional. Juliet Stevenson is, of course, top drawer but Wanda McCaddon and Rosamund Pike's versions are good too (though I don't like the latters use of inaccurate accents on certain characters just to differentiate them as being less genteel)

One October morning, Laina gets the news that her brother has been shot and killed by Boston cops. But what looks like a case of police brutality soon reveals something much stranger. Monsters are real. And they want everyone to know it. As creatures from myth and legend come out of the shadows, seeking safety through visibility, their emergence sets off a chain of seemingly unrelated events. Members of a local werewolf pack are threatened into silence.

Stunning and cathartic, brilliant, hypnotic reader
Revisado: 10-17-22
I haven't come across anything like it. Maybe Octavia Butler, but, the line level writing is more like poetry, utterly unsettling and beautiful..
The reader is one of the best I've ever heard (and I'm fussy af).
It's like Euphoria meets the Hate You Give with monsters and oh golly...You've never seen Monsters rendered like this.
I can be grateful for being introduced to this author and hope there will be more of this world and these characters.

My life is genuinely turning in a better more hopeful and growthful direction in the short time since I discovered Susie.
You may have heard some, many, or all the notions in this book but I challenge you to present a book that makes soooo many self-help and philosophy concepts immediately digestible, actionable, entertaining, & TRULY HELPFUL! She makes them into "hacks" without losing the meaning.
I'm about to send it to 5 different people in my life And I'm sure I will send it to more.
Please do yourselves a favor by getting this book. I would bet my pinky toe that you will find at least 10 simple things you can do to make your life and the lives around you better, happier, and easier.

Revisado: 02-09-22
Whomever complained of Andy Serkis having only 4 voices is either too attached to the previous reader or a fool. I get it. We love and are loyal to our first imbibing but don't go giving false witness.
I'm a huge audiophile. My favorite readers are Juliet Stevenson (Jane Austen) and Patrick Tull (Patrick O'Brien) But I believe Andy Serkis might make the list. I think he actually enhances the source material.
