Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Joyful ignorance
Revisado: 06-30-24
In anticipation of reading the new book James by Percival Everett, I thought it best to read/listen to the original story by Mark Twain. The narrator is excellent! I can’t believe I’m this old and am just experiencing Mark Twain!

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Magnificent
Revisado: 02-18-24
My first 5 star read/listen of 2024. I’ve read other reviewers frequently comment that they did not want a book to end. I think for the first time I understand that feeling! It was especially rewarding to read along with the audible narration.

Historia
In this vast and gorgeous tapestry of a novel, serf and master, Cossack and tsar, priest and Jew are brought together in a family saga which unrolls through centuries of history to reveal that most impenetrable and mysterious of lands - Russia. Through the life of a little town east of Moscow in the Russian heartland, Edward Rutherfurd creates a sweeping family saga from the baffling contradictions of Russia's culture and her peoples - bleak yet exotic, brutal but romantic, land of ritual yet riddled with superstitious fears.

Cannot compare to Michener
Revisado: 12-27-23
This book was chosen based on a recommendation that Rutherford is comparable to James Michener. At 45%, I am bailing on the audible. I’m sure I will finish reading this book, but the narrator does not make me want to listen any more. Not sure if it’s the narrator’s or author’s fault.
