Historia
Vaelin Al Sorna is a living legend, his name known across the Realm. It was his leadership that overthrew empires, his blade that won hard-fought battles - and his sacrifice that defeated an evil more terrifying than anything the world had ever seen. He won titles aplenty, only to cast aside his earned glory for a quiet life in the Realm's northern reaches. Yet whispers have come from across the sea - rumours of an army called the Steel Horde, led by a man who believes himself a god.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading!
Revisado: 08-02-19
It's easy to join the circle jerk on Anthony Ryan's 'Raven's Shadow' series. Admittedly, the first book remains one of the best books I have ever read. The second was great, but the third left much to be desired. That being said, the criticism the series receives are sometimes over the top.
Rather than join the circle jerk, I still enjoyed the first series. Anthony Ryan is a fantastic writer and I do not think anyone else writes about different religions, cultures, ethnicity as well as he does. The nuance between nations and religious customs written in the book is fantastic and captivating. He doesn't take shortcuts and simply glances over how different nations are by just briefly talking about architecture, or how 'barbaric' nomadic tribes are, he instead goes in depth into the culture and I have always enjoyed it.
Blood Song will perhaps never be topped. That's simply because you grew up with the lads, Dentos, Norta, Cainus etc... therefore it's hard to follow up on such a loving cast of characters. This new book gives us a chance to find new characters, but also introduce old ones, therefore I am excited to see where this story goes. I am confident this series will be fantastic.

Historia
The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

26 hour prologue
Revisado: 02-24-19
The series has potential. I suspect the proceeding volumes will be significantly better, but this book is extremely uneventful, and the pace is as slow as a molasses.
As I mentioned, this book is to me a 26 hour prologue. It's simply lore and universe building and the repetitive cycle of, father this, mother that, gibson that, wow that did not go as planned, I messed up.
Regardless, I look forward to the next book.

From the first book to the third. It only got better. Best payoff in ages.
