Kimberla didn't disappoint again with this book. This was a good story line and of course Susan Spain narrator beautifully and put the icing on the cake.

I know a lot of people are giving this book a low rating because of the narrator but I actually like this narrator. I do agree that she should do different voices to differentiate between characters but if you're paying attention you can follow.

The book was a good story and gave a good understanding to the emotions that humans go through. I felt it articulated emotions that we all can relate to straight, gay, or otherwise.

I was hesitant because a lot of reviewers were saying that the book was boring but I listened to it and it wasn't boring but you have to be open to listening to ALL types of story lines. This one is just a regular story with every day situations. It has drama but it's regular relatable drama. I liked the book and all of it's glory.

Great book and better than the movie in some instances. Very informative and articulated the perspective of black people with black people experiences and the perspective of how black people view other people. I just hope this book will help bridge the gap to have the hard conversations and ACTUALLY take action for us as a people to start change and understand our current way of doing things isn't working.

The story line was good but the book seemed to have abruptly ended....... I mean there was so much more to tell. Like what happened to their case exactly? Did the boys graduate and become successful? What happened with Des, Jerri, and Perk? What happened with the father's health? The book could've went on for another 8 hrs at least. I didn't like the way some of the narrators sounded either. A few times that caused me to pause the book and come back and listen later.

I like a feel good story where the characters learn a lesson. I like the story itself but I don't quite think the events add up to the storyline. Also the narrator's were too much all the time!! The characters too were naive and the story seemed unfinished. I think they should've told more about Jeff. Also Jeff 😂😂😂 dying because of a car was so ridiculous! I mean what was he going to do?!? I know he had insurance so run after a SUV like he was going to be a buffer and stop the crash! 🤔🤔😂😂. Ultimately it was a time passer but I had to listen in spurts only because I was committed.

I know this is fictional but it hit home for so many little children, especially during that time. As for Rhoda I think she had some convoluted way of feeling justified in her actions. That's why she could appear unaffected and going on with her life. All in all the book was great a little drawn out but in a good way. The narrator was great as well which is needed because an inadequate narrator will make you not listen even if the book has a good story line.

Charlotte is the epitome of selfishness!!

Charlotte is so wrong on so many levels..... I understand that no woman would be thrilled about taking in her husband's love child but if you agree to work it out after your spouse has cheated, then you agree to ALL the baggage that comes along with that situation. It's funny how Charlotte was only willing to except Curtina when it was going to benefit her and Curtina was her only life line to continue to get what she wanted. Also on what planet did she think opening her legs to other men would get her husband to see things her way?!?! Her logic is very warped....... Lastly, how many times will this couple say No More Secrets?! Then the next year keep more secrets!!

It was inevitable that Alicia had a bad marriage she adored her father and he was the epitome of being a screw up when it comes to relationships. Also as a child you absorb your atmosphere good and bad. So it was only natural for Alicia to be attracted to a man exactly like her father.

This is a classic story of an apple not falling from the tree because Alicia is the epitome of her father. Especially with that wayward logic and thought process. Then Curtis and his hypocrisy. One thing I did miss with this book though, was the classic ending of the scandal being exposed in the church.

I also the growth in the narrator's performance from her beginning stages and other books I've heard her reading. She gives the right emotion at the right time. Her voice is strong and soft when needed so you can get the picture of the story in your mind.
