A Truly wonderful story
Revisado: 04-25-24
I loved this story. Mr. Baldacci I applaud your depiction of this story. Most authors tell stories of this time in history without giving any forethought as to the black ppl who will read it. Most books that speak of this era use that platform as permission to use the "N" word bc of its prevalence in that time. Some recognize its sensitivity, but most do not. You are truly a lifted writer and I have been a fan for many years. It has been amazing to read your range in storytelling.

Historia
Hidden away near the end of Long Island, New York, is a community where affluent African Americans, their friends, and the wannabes have secretly vacationed for more than 75 years. Unlike the bluffs of Martha’s Vineyard, black folks here own five miles of prime beachfront. With a mix of legacy families, new money, hangers-on, and thirsty developers, drama can never be far behind in a place called...the BLACK HAMPTONS.

Such a let down!
Revisado: 09-10-22
This began as a great story and it builds all this anticipation just for everything to be summed up in the epilog. It made the story feel incomplete.

Although I enjoyed the book, I feel as though it would have been a great book if the book started with the situation that lead to the main character to her present location.
Overall it is good read and keeps your attention.

The Best Autobiography I have read.
Revisado: 05-24-19
Many books are nice to read and we are able to see the story. But this book I feel as though I connected with you on a level hard to describe. I know these were condensed stories, but it leaves me intrigued by the whole story ( the way only families can tell it). It was intimate and clearly came from the heart. I hope to meet or talk with you someday as you have given me and many black woman a true example of being the best and truest version of ourselves. And I thank you

Although the story was interesting, I anticipated a more exciting ending. What was achieved is still unbelievable and its relationship to the issues of today remarkable. Thank you for sharing your part of history.

Was not a fav!!!
Revisado: 05-26-18
The storyline was not bad, but some of the racial references were unnecessary (i.e. he jumped like a black kid hearing a gunshot in the ghetto). Unlike the other books which dealt with that time period of racial distinction, that comment & other like it could have been avoided.
