Historia
We humans tend to get in our own way time and time again - whether it comes to not speaking up for ourselves, going back to bad romantic partners, our umpteenth diet, or engaging in any of a range of bad habits we just can’t seem to shake. In Rewire, renowned psychotherapist Richard O’Connor, PhD, reveals why our bad habits die so hard. We have two brains - one a thoughtful, conscious, deliberative self, and the other an automatic self that does most of the work without our attention.

I dont think I can finish this book
Revisado: 01-21-20
I was hoping to like this book, the premise seemed promising. However it seems to be written for a specific type of person. I’ve read lots of self help books about changing your habits, your mindset, and your life. This is the first one I’ve come across that is written non-objectively. It uses the term “we” a lot, I’m about two hours in and it has said “we do this or that” a lot. Then it references scientific studies, which is cool but it then goes back to “we assume we’re better than everyone else” or one specific example is “we pick up the wallet off the ground and try to find the owner, while assuming that everyone else would just pick it up” Well i

As much as science tries to answer all our questions and technology tries to make life easier, there is always a part of us that hungers for something greater. "We have souls that need meaning and purpose as much as the body needs food and water," says Thomas Moore. With A Personal Spirituality, this respected teacher presents a guide for cultivating your own practice and faith - not based on laws etched in rigid tradition but on your inner yearning for wisdom and truth.

only worth listening to if you're new to spirituality
Revisado: 11-26-18
I started listening to this because I had read dark nights of the soul by the same author which I loved, I made it about halfway through this and couldn't do anymore because there's really no substance to this series of talks. Unless you are new to exploring your spirituality and just starting to open your mind coming from a strict religion or something. then it would be helpful.
I didn't gain anything from what I've heard so far and it basically just seems like he was saying embrace the beauty and spirituality in everything over and over again in different ways. it was a waste of my time unfortunately.

Historia
Jonathan Safran Foer spent much of his teenage and college years oscillating between omnivore and vegetarian. But on the brink of fatherhood - facing the prospect of having to make dietary choices on a child's behalf - his casual questioning took on an urgency His quest for answers ultimately required him to visit factory farms in the middle of the night, dissect the emotional ingredients of meals from his childhood, and probe some of his most primal instincts about right and wrong.

Misleading
Revisado: 07-26-16
I don't understand this book. About 30 minutes into listening the author says it's not about vegetarianism. It's about factory farming. But I'm 45 minutes in and he's still talking about his life and his dog, and telling stories about his family. He even acknowledged how the book title is misleading to make people think it's about being vegetarian.
So far it seems it's a book about his struggle with not being vegetarian and he's telling stories about his life to justify it. He keeps emphasizing about how eating comes with stories, which I understand what with his family being Jewish there's a rich heritage having to do with food there. But what does that have to do with factory farming?
I would listen on, but being a vegetarian myself and realizing this book is defending eating meat I won't bother. I find this book misleading and offensive.

To take a skeptical approach to American history is not to dabble in imaginative conspiracy theories; rather, it's to reframe your understanding of this great nation's past and actually strengthen your appreciation for what makes American history such a fascinating chapter in the larger story of Western civilization. And in this bold 24-lecture series, you can do just that.

Wonderful course, I enjoyed the composition of discussing popular historical idea followed by expository discussion on the myths.
