Historia
A courageous, life-changing memoir that teaches us to apply the lessons learned by those nearing their death to our own life. After too many years of unfulfilling work, Bronnie Ware began searching for a job with meaning. Despite having no formal qualifications or experience, she found herself working in palliative care. During the time she spent tending to the needs of those who were dying, Bronnie's life was transformed.

I regret the author wasted much time on herself
Revisado: 01-23-25
I am fascinated by the topic of lifetime regrets and was really hoping this would provide me some insight into summaries of the regrets of dying people, and why they regretted their choices. Instead much of the first part, some of the middle and most of the end of this had to do with what flavor of tea the author was sipping, her feelings on working in the banking industry, her thoughts of nursing care for the dying and her musical aspirations. When she finally got around to talking about the top 5 regrets she still went off on her tangents on where she was living, how she was financially, her love life, etc. The chapters on the 5 regrets seemed short and shallow, without many repeated examples from different perspectives. She should have written two books, one focused on the regrets topic and another just focused on her life outside of care for the aged.

Historia
After mulling over the lessons he's learned, the places he's been, and all the miracles and strange occurrences he's witnessed, he arrived at one simple rule for living a long and good life: don't die. It's the only one-size-fits-all advice, William Shatner argues in Live Long and..: What I Learned Along the Way, because everyone has a unique life - but, to help us all out, he's more than willing to share stories from his unique life. With a combination of pithy humor and thoughtful vulnerability, Shatner lays out his journey from childhood to peak stardom.

how he admitted he had no great insight into life and how that was an understatement

I disliked how repitive he was and how little he had to say about life or what he had learned

Number one nationally best-selling author and political commentator Michael Knowles masterfully traces the history and effects of political correctness from the early 20th century to the present, revealing its insidious roots, exposing the power-hungry language architects behind its ever-growing control, and examining what this concerted manipulation of speech means for the future of American culture, politics, and minds.

very interesting from beginning to end
Revisado: 03-31-24
I like how this book was written in an organized manner with chapters focused on different social and political topics. Each chapter would introduce an area, followed by an evolution of how the words used to describe it would change in order to appeal to different people or to change people's beliefs, or even to bend scientific observations to match one's bias. For example, he quoted how there once huge alarmism around a coming "second ice age" and "global cooling" which gave away a few years later to "global warming" which was the opposite of what the alarmists would afraid of... then finally when neither theory proved true, the alarmists just started calling it "climate change" so they would be covered whichever way the science did or didn't confirm what was happening.

Historia
Paul Van Doren is the founder of Vans - the shoe company beloved by skateboarders, creatives, and fans everywhere for its laid-back, colorful SoCal vibe, and famous for its people-oriented company culture. How did Van Doren establish a family shoe business that evolved into a globally recognized brand with annual revenue of more than four billion dollars? A blue-collar kid with no higher education and zero retail experience, Van Doren leveraged a knack for numbers, a genius for efficiency, and the know-how to make a great canvas tennis shoe into an all-American success story.

surprisingly interesting for a shoe companyhistory
Revisado: 06-27-23
Extremely well read and pretty well written. I am very biased though because I was born around the same time as when the Vans company started and loved the shoes since I bought them in junior high near the biggest growth period in the early 80s. I also live in Orange County so I could relate a lot to the early history of the chqin and their overall philosophy. The book had interesting tangents into the movie industry, skateboarding, clothing line, the warped concert tour and many interesting stories about this family business. If you like Vans I think you'll enjoy this history.

Historia
When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

Carrie is very sarcastic & funny
Revisado: 06-27-23
It was a fast listen because it was so interesting and often funny. I was glad that Carrie read si much of it as she really added the emphasis needed to indicate her wit and sarcasm. The parts read by her daughter were quite the opposite and were really deep and introspective, with excellent mature writing, especially for a 20 year old high school dropout actress. I wish there was a pause or some indication of the dates in that section. I would recommend this for anyone with any interest in the actress although she didn't describe a whole lot about the filming of the Star Wars movies.

The long-awaited autobiography from Phil Collins, one of the best-selling music artists of all time. This is the roller-coaster journey from his beginnings as a child actor to his domination of the charts as both a solo artist and part of Genesis. His success is astounding, his music has global reach, and his story is legendary.

fascinating insight into an interesting life
Revisado: 04-14-23
I had no idea that Phil had lived such an interesting life. This is a longer book, but it grabbed my attention throughout his life, from his early acting days, to early bands, Genesis, solo efforts and various tours and reunions. He gives the story behind several of his biggest hit songs, as well descriptions of his family relations, regrets with his kids and his many failed marriages and relationships. I am glad this was read by the author, even if some of his word choices might be unfamiliar to United States listeners. Glad I got this book.

great concept, useless book
Revisado: 04-14-23
This had very high ratings so I my expectations were high, but this turned out to be a trivial fluff. The casual writing and reading style made it very easy to turn it out, but I forced myself to listen through it to try to get something of substance, which never came.
I'm paraphrasing here, but not by much, the advice would be like 'Negative thoughts are thoughts you think that are negative, which can really bring you down. Does everybody get negative thoughts every once in awhile? Yes, but you don't have to be gripped by negative thoughts, as we only have one life to live, so try not to think thoughts that are negative and allow these negative thoughts to bring you down.'
I had hoped to return this book and looking for something better on this subject, but since I didn't use a credit to purchase it I can't.

Van Halen's rise in the 1980s was one of the most thrilling the music world had ever seen - their mythos an epic party, a sweaty, sexy, never-ending rock extravaganza. During this unparalleled run of success, debauchery, and drama, no one was closer to the band than Noel Monk. Throughout Van Halen's meteoric rise and abrupt halt, this confidant, fixer, friend, and promoter saw it all and lived to tell. Now, for the first time, he shares the most outrageous escapades.

one of the best "listens" I've ever enjoyed
Revisado: 03-22-23
I am a diehard classic Van Halen fan and found the subjects that the former band manager brought up to be fascinating. Understandably, it focused a lot more on the business aspects like the business contracts and how much the band was making on merchandising than the music production (which he had no insight about), it was still interesting to hear about the early bookings of the band, the travel arrangements, the backstage antics, the hotel experiences and discussions that Noel had with each of the band members at different times. I loved the writing style of Noel, and the reading style of Fred, they really punched up the stories. I couldn't wait to get in my car for a drive to hear more of this story, so I finished the 11 hour audiobook very quickly. I'd recommend this book to people with an interest in early Van Halen and what it took to go from small clubs to world-wide arena tours.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Revisado: 04-06-22
Despite being a long book, I found more interesting than I expected. It was very insightful, sometimes funny, often times sad, and occasionally touching. I only wish Elton had read the entire book to provide the proper inflection and tone to his stories.
