Wonderful respite from the news. Delightful, funny, and heartbreaking stories of Jeff’s life. A master storyteller who doesn’t take himself too seriously. A gem.
Looking forward to season 3!

An attention-capturing storyline - and not what I’d expect from a masculine music star. Loved that the main character, Nia, is a Black Lesbian. The challenges of being black are shared as part of the storyline as they’re, unfortunately, realistic.
Emphatic narration brought life to urgency scenes.
Looking forward to the sequel!

A heart wrenching story, all too true. With the incoming Trump administration, we may be forced to use this as a guidebook how to survive fascism. We must resist this tyranny and make sure that humanity & democracy survive

What an enjoyable book! I love the nuances & details observed every day and how the descriptions are so beautifully woven!

As we approach the winter solstice in the Northern hemisphere, the cycles and rhythms of the world are so evident. This book was a perfect companion.

I could listen to Louise Edrich read the telephone book (for younger generations, a phone book was a massive printed book that listed names & their associated phone numbers alphabetically)

Having a keen interest in Indigenous history, stories, and perspectives, this was a beautifully woven story of everyday people who had survived genocide and faded another certain death sentence.

Each character was rich in their stories and uniqueness. What a privilege and gift to hear these stories and so beautifully written.

A few hours in to a few hours from the end, it seemed to drag in circles. I just couldn’t get invested in the story or much into the characters.
With about 1 hour left, the story finally got gripping. The unraveling of the contest and the story twist were exciting.

I’m most familiar with William Kent Krueger’s Cork O’Connor’s series.

I enjoy the realness of everyday people and the acknowledgement of biases & prejudices that “other” people, rendering them inhuman. But we are all “other” to someone else.

The character progressions in this book are beautifully woven to highlight their humanity. I was touched by the “Ordinary Grace” that appeared unexpectedly. Though also realized Methodist, I don’t subscribe to any religion anymore. I could appreciate the points of view and the comfort the practices & forgiveness brought.

A beautiful book that had me crying at the end.

I’ve enjoyed his other book, “The Hidden Life of Trees”. I enjoyed this book, too.
Only drawbacks is that all forest exploration was assumed to be in a managed forest or park and that the narrator occasionally mispronounced some common and scientific words.
Still enjoyed and learned some new things, even with my 50+ years of enjoying the woods and having studied woody plants and ecology in college & in life.

I was laughing so hard while driving that I was glad I was at a traffic light when he shared the story of a bathroom emergency.

Wonderfully written book the weaved gut busting humor with heartbreaking losses.

While I’m not Canadian, I’m glad I grew up next to Canada so I could relate to much of the Canadian culture shared in this book; Kids in the Hall, Hockey Night in Canada, Toronto, CN Tower, and more.
