Good story, good narration
Revisado: 02-09-15
This was my first time to listen to a novel by L. Modesitt. While the story line takes a while to develop once I got further into the book I really enjoyed it.
The narrator is fantastic and has to deal with the oddities of sounds in the book. While the narrating of wind blowing, boots clicking, and horses whinnying can distract from the story I thought it was done well.
Overall a great listen.

Not a standalone story
Revisado: 01-08-15
This book is the continuation of the story of Mags from previous novels. There is no character development or growth. Past story lines are mentioned but not elaborated on.
I have not read the previous novels and while I found this story interesting I also found myself wanting to know more about heralds and how and why they are chosen. Why they are so important to the system of government, etc. things I was not going to get from this book.

The Great Hunt
Revisado: 03-31-12
If you could sum up The Great Hunt in three words, what would they be?
Fantastic. Masterful storytelling.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is Perrin. All of the characters are approachable in there humanness but Perrin is shy and quite. He feels powerless and awkward. Yet at the same time he is powerful, challenging, assertive, and loyal. I think all of us feel like Perrin on the inside, weak, and yet to the outside world we seem strong.
Which character – as performed by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer – was your favorite?
Padan Fain as performed by Michael Kramer. Fain is a difficult character, i think, to act out because he is mad and slips between two different accents. Kramer does a great rendition.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The Great Hunt for Horn - The heron marks the path
Any additional comments?
This is one of my favorite book series. I have read the wheel of time series many, many, times. It was in my desire to reread the books but not having time (I am a full time masters student) to devote to actual reading that led me to purchase the audible book. I was very skeptical at first when Kate and Michael began to read stories I knew so well out loud. The characters voices (which i had never heard) took some getting used to as they didn't quite match up with what I had imagined. Once i got over my prejudices however and just listened to the story I became enrapt and the books opened up to me as they never have before. I have now started the audible book

The New York Times best-selling novel from Garth Stein - a heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope - a captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life...as only a dog could tell it.

All Dogs Go to Heaven
Revisado: 03-31-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, the story is very well written and captivating. I would caution my friends however that the book can be quite graphic in certain places and that it would not be suitable to listen to around a child.
What other book might you compare The Art of Racing in the Rain to and why?
This book is comparable to many novels if only because the narrators are animals and speak from that point of view including the 'Dog on It' series or 'Watership Down.'
What does Christopher Evan Welch bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Welch really captures the spirit of Enzo and being a dog. When he speaks from Enzo's perspective it sounds like you would think a dog would sound. Welch is a phenomenal reader.
Who was the most memorable character of The Art of Racing in the Rain and why?
The most memorable character in the book is Enzo, who also happens to be the main character. He provides the insights, the drama, the cliff hangers. He is quotable and lovable. After listening to this book I find that I talk to my dog a lot more. Much like Denny does with Enzo.
Any additional comments?
I recommend this book to any animal lovers. The characters are highly approachable and very memorable. I would once again however caution young listeners to some of the graphic moments of the book as Enzo does not sensor himself in his comments. He is, after all, a dog.

What made the experience of listening to The Alchemist the most enjoyable?
This book provides incredible perspectives on how we as human beings view the world and how we should view the world. Its almost a self help book except it does so in novel form. The characters, the revelations, are all things that anyone can relate to and be transformed by.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is the boy. It his journey and self discovery that we as readers get to follow.
What does Jeremy Irons bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Jeremy Irons was a fantastic reader. His voicing of characters and richness of inflection brings the story to life in a way that is not possible when reading it inside your head.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
