My favorite Audible book so far

This was a great read and extremely well written and told, in my view. The headline says it all - my favorite Audible book I have listened to so far. Hail the Tenth!

Historia
The 14th Gemina Martia Victrix Legion was the most celebrated unit of the early Roman Empire - a force that had been wiped out under Julius Caesar, reformed, and almost wiped out again. After participating in the a.d. 43 invasion of Britain, the 14th Legion achieved its greatest glory when it put down the famous rebellion of the Britons under Boudicca.

Over the course of 48 richly detailed lectures, Professor Garland covers the breadth and depth of human history from the perspective of the so-called ordinary people, from its earliest beginnings through the Middle Ages.

A big commitment, but very well done
Revisado: 07-09-19
A really great treatment on the regular people of the ancient world and middle ages. I learned a great deal, even though I have been an avid student of history all my life. An absolutely fantastic lecturer with a great voice, timing, and pacing. Really well done. Vivid, engaging, and a pleasure to listen to.

Good content, but delivery too slow and laborious
Revisado: 07-09-19
Humans can understand human speech quite a bit more rapidly than it is spoken. The author needs to keep the pace up and not draw out his words when reading. It got so frustrating, even though I was very interested in the material, that I stopped early in the book. This is the first time I have done this with an Audible title. I would re-record it if I were the author, and pick up the pace.
