Love that it’s based off of Joshua and the Wall! Kind of jumbled together but it was over a good read.

The ending was amazing and the biggest twist of the story!

My daughter’s 5th grade class was reading this at home and the book overall was great to listen to. It really makes you think about all the migrant families. My daughter was so into this book and she asked all kinds of questions which I loved. We loved listening to the actual Author versus someone else.

Historia
After suffering a tragic loss, 11-year-old Ollie only finds solace in books. So when she happens upon a crazed woman at the river threatening to throw a book into the water, Ollie doesn't think—she just acts, stealing the book and running away. As she begins to read the slender volume, Ollie discovers a chilling story about a girl named Beth, the two brothers who both loved her, and a peculiar deal made with "the smiling man", a sinister specter who grants your most tightly held wish, but only for the ultimate price.

The scarecrows and the smiling man was a crazy good twist!

My daughter LOVED it being a mystery and she didn’t like how they kept saying “hell” and “shut up” in the book.
