Historia
Reidon Ward will become a god. He doesn't know it yet, of course. Reidon was born weak, sickly, and small. Afflicted with a painful disease and abandoned by his parents because of it, he has had to fight tooth and nail for every minor advantage life has allowed him. However, his perseverance has not gone unnoticed, and when the most powerful artificial intelligence in human history takes an interest in him, things began to change quickly.

surprisingly good
Revisado: 01-30-25
Much better writing than anticipated, the story flowed very well, wasn't full of cringy cliches, and while the storyline was relatively predictable the interactions themselves that make up the story were not. As for the narration, it was as to be expected from Luke Daniels, good range and distinction of voices. clear narration and easy to listen to, great inflexion to add emotion and give life to the characters. exceptional value for a 32 hour book. Bought the second book the moment I finished this one

Unexpectedly good
Revisado: 12-18-24
Have never heard anything from either this author nor the narrator so I really didn't know what to expect, but it had a good story and the narration was fantastic. The narrator has a wide enough array of voices to give each character a unique voice and it was well delivered. I looked forward to picking the story back up all through the 30 hours

very consistent addition to the series. if you're expecting some big huge change to the story line, this isn't the book. if you're looking for another fun and entertaining installment in the James McGill saga, then you won't won't disappointed. out of the hundreds of scifi books I've listened to on audible, the undying mercenaries series is far and above my favorite, I'm pausing whatever current book I'm listening to whenever a new undying mercenaries book comes out

Never gets old
Revisado: 12-19-23
I have listened to thousands and thousands of hours of specifically sci fi audio books, and without a doubt this series is my favorite. Sure the template stays the same, but the dialog and the narration is just top notch and it keeps the story fresh and entertaining, I wouldn't want Larson to change anything. If you liked the previous 19 books in this series, youre going to like this one as well, I would preorder the next 20 books in this series if I could.

Revisado: 06-29-23
I was suggested this book by a friend and didn't really have high hopes for it, I wasn't very impressed initially but gave it a few chapters, by the time I finished the book it is now my second favorite series out of the 300+ books in my audible collection and I can't wait for the rest of the books in the series. If you're considering this book just get it, its worth every dollar and every minute of listen time

Historia
Rigel is a thousand lightyears farther from the Core Worlds than Earth, so they suffer the first attacks. The mood at Central is jubilant. Our greatest rival is falling—now is the time to strike while they’re weak! Legion Varus is deployed to Jungle World, a vital planet deep in Rigellian territory. Our foes, fighting on two fronts, are driven back with ease. But one man questions the wisdom of this move. Should Earth expand with greed, aiding new monsters from the Galactic Rim? That lone voice of reason comes from James McGill.

I could listen to a 100 of these stories. Sure it's the same premise as the other books in the series, but none of them feel like they're repeating. The story continues to evolve and build with every book added. I can't wait until the next one.

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

one of the worst sci books I have listened to
Revisado: 01-08-22
I tried to keep listening and let the book pick up and get better, but this is just awful. I am 3/4 the way through the book and the protagonist does not have a single hardship, everything is just handed to him. The main character is not likeable at all, he is fighting the most powerful criminal organization in the universe on his third mission out. This story is about what I would expect from a junior highschooler, that has no concept of story arc's, character progression, or really anything that makes a book enjoyable. Jeffrey Kafer did a great job narrating an abysmal story.
