Historia
We may all know some people who could fit the profile, but sometimes, the term psycho gets used out of context. What defines a psychopath, and how are they different from sociopaths? Psychopathy is not uncommon, and chances are that you might know someone who is one, even though it may have never crossed your mind. To study and understand what a psychopath is and how to look for the signs and subtle differences, is to protect yourself and others, and to get a greater comprehension of the human mind.

Inaccurate portrayal of psychopathy
Revisado: 07-20-23
The author appears to conflate psychopathy and narcissism, incorrectly implying that all psychopaths are narcissists - a notion that is significantly inaccurate.

Historia
In this engrossing journey into the lives of psychopaths and their infamously crafty behaviors, the renowned psychologist Kevin Dutton reveals that there is a scale of "madness" along which we all sit. Incorporating the latest advances in brain scanning and neuroscience, Dutton demonstrates that the brilliant neurosurgeon who lacks empathy has more in common with a Ted Bundy who kills for pleasure than we may wish to admit, and that a mugger in a dimly lit parking lot may well, in fact, have the same nerveless poise as a titan of industry.

Very interesting perspective on psychopathy
Revisado: 01-26-22
Psychopathy is viewed from a fresh perspective. It would have been useful if the author had added strategies for developing these attributes in ourselves, especially under high-stress situations.

Historia
The Lucifer Priciple is a revolutionary work that explores the intricate relationships among genetics, human behavior, and culture to put forth the thesis that "evil" is a by-product of nature's strategies for creation and that it is woven into our most basic biological fabric. Though this argument is not a new one - it has been brought forth by such great historical figures as St. Paul, Thomas Hobbes, and Raymond Dart - Howard Bloom here takes fresh data from a variety of sources and shapes it into a lens through which listeners can reinterpret the human experience.

more of a fiction
Revisado: 09-02-21
this was the least scientific sound book I've ever listened or read since harry potter. the author doesn't provide any reason for his reasonings?? Just a spew of hatred toward things he doesn't understand or like. he's not afraid to lie about historical facts either.

Good book - author needs some gender empathy
Revisado: 07-06-21
Book by itself is very good. But the author only uses examples where women are the victims even on subjects that the abuse is a lot more prevalent on the other side of the aisle. These types of book should be the source of empathy and comfort. One-sided judgement would only make it harder for male victims to speak out.
* I'd say the same if it was the other way around.

Lying

Historia
As it was in Anna Karenina, Madame Bovary, and Othello, so it is in life. Most forms of private vice and public evil are kindled and sustained by lies. Acts of adultery and other personal betrayals, financial fraud, government corruption - even murder and genocide - generally require an additional moral defect: a willingness to lie. In Lying, bestselling author and neuroscientist Sam Harris argues that we can radically simplify our lives and improve society by merely telling the truth in situations where others often lie.

Historia
Sam Harris tears down the wall between scientific facts and human values, arguing that most people are simply mistaken about the relationship between morality and the rest of human knowledge. Harris urges us to think about morality in terms of human and animal well-being, viewing the experiences of conscious creatures as peaks and valleys on a "moral landscape".
