Packed with new reporting, Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Party tracks Trump’s improbable journey from disgraced and defeated former president to the dominant force, yet again, in the Republican Party. From his exile in Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump has become more extreme, vengeful, and divorced from reality than he was on January 6, 2021. His meddling damaged the GOP’s electoral prospects and his legal troubles were mounting. Yet he re-emerged as the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and the president-elect.

A Great Account of Holding Trump to Account
Revisado: 11-16-23
An honest telling of Trump’s time in office, the attempt to stay in office, and how he has spent his time since leaving office up to the present. It is so unfortunate that the people who most need to read this, will never do so because the truth hurts, and so they will continue to look upon Mr. Karl as "an enemy of the people".

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Get ready for a ride!
Revisado: 10-11-21
Probably the best audio book I have ever listened to. I currently work close to where Dave grew up in Virginia but I drive 50 miles one way just to get to work so I finished this pretty quickly. I will be listening to it again. It's like having Dave ride to work with you and telling you great stories. This was an emotional roller coaster all the way. I was excited for Dave, I laughed out loud a lot, and I sobbed uncontrollably during a drive home from work. Read it, listen to it whatever suits you but don't miss this wonderful story about a very humble and deserving person. Can't wait for book 2. 🤞

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.

Why we need Al Franken back!
Revisado: 08-25-21
After listening to this I strong feel that Mr. Franken would be an awesome President. This man truly cares and I feel he could lead our country to a more equitable country on all levels. I could stop listening to it and I am going to replay it again. Be prepared to laugh out loud and to cry out loud.

Historia
Donald Trump isn't a despot. But he is increasingly acting like the "despot's apprentice", an understudy in authoritarian tactics that threaten to erode American democracy, including attacking the press, threatening rule of law by firing those who investigate his alleged wrongdoings, using nepotism to staff the White House, and countless other techniques. Donald Trump is borrowing tactics from the world's dictators and despots.

I waited until 2021 to listen to this and wow! Very prescient. We have all seen just how fragile our democracy is. But it is always worth fighting for.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Felt like going home to hear this.
Revisado: 09-15-20
My mamaw and papaw lived in Harlan County, Kentucky. My papaw worked the coal mines and my dad did too when he was a teenager. My dad joined the Army during WWII when he was only 17. He stayed in the Army and did a tour in Vietnam in 1968 - 69 and was in charge of a helicopter battalion that did recon. He retired 3 years later with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. One of the first to be promoted to that rank. My papaw died from black lung. My dad was fortunate to get out of Harlan and made a good life for his family. I never lived or visited Harlan as all of his family had moved to other places. Ohio being one. But the stories I used to listen to my dad and his cousins talk about when they got together were crazy. Good people come from that part of Kentucky and they might be poor, but they would still do what they could for each other.
Hearing this was so familiar and is how several people all over Kentucky still live today. Opioids are abundant and Meth can be found anywhere in the state. Marijuana growing is how several make ends meet, until the law catches up with them. Too many people in this country live at poverty level while the 1% keep raking it in. We will never see a middle class again.

My absolute all time favorite book
Revisado: 08-14-20
I read Watchers when it was first released and it is still just as wonderful now as it was then. Who, as a dog lover hasn't imagined having a dog that could communicate with its human? This book not only made me feel joy, but also excitement, fear, nervous, and sad. Dean R Koontz has been a favorite author of mine ever since and he has never let me down.

How Donald Trump became the person he is
Revisado: 07-15-20
This was excellent! Mary has narrated the only book that truly explains why Donald Trump is the person he is. When hearing about his earliest childhood I couldn't help but feel sorry for the toddler and the lack of nurturing that is so critical to a child that age, yet it doesn't excuse the adult that he became and is now. This is a must read or listen for everyone world wide. Thank you for speaking out and educating us Mary.
