Historia
We're living in the midst of a scientific revolution that's captured the general public's attention and imagination. The aim of this new revolution is to develop a "theory of everything," a set of laws of physics that will explain all that can be explained, ranging from the tiniest subatomic particle to the universe as a whole. Here, readers will learn the ideas behind the theories and their effects upon our world, our civilization, and ourselves.

Misunderstood title?
Revisado: 09-20-16
Either I've misunderstood the title as presenting who this book is *for* rather than who it's *by* ... or I'm much less complete as a idiot than I'd have thought.

Historia
The Chronicles of Clovis, published in 1911, was the third in Saki (H. H. Munro)'s series of very funny and very vicious stories. As an insider, Saki was ideally poised to eviscerate the Edwardian middle class way of life, and his pitiless and magnetic sense of humour - teamed with an ability to wield that sharpest of writer's tools, the (very) short story - makes these some of the funniest and most quotable of tales. All of the running themes in Saki's work are here.

Weighed down...
Revisado: 07-17-16
Christopher Morley aptly characterized Saki's writing as "delicate, airy, lucid, precise, with the inconspicuous agility of perfect style". Richardson's reading could be appropriate for Shakespeare, but this ponderous, florid performance does Saki's effervescent stories a disservice.

Historia
Considered one of China's great classical novels, Wu Ch'êng-ên's Journey to the West was translated by Arthur Waley in abridged form as Monkey in 1942 and has delighted English readers ever since. It is a riveting adventure story about a priest's quest to obtain holy Buddhist scriptures for the Tang emperor; joining him on this rollicking journey: Sandy, Pigsy, and the mischievous monkey king, Sun Wukong, whose flying cloud and magic cudgel are never far from his infamous deeds.

Intrusive performance
Revisado: 11-26-15
The reader "performs" the story, and it is one of the more intrusive performances I've heard. He seems to be worried about missing a plane because he tears through the material at a pace that is occasionally barely even intelligible. The place of occasional cockney accents in a Chinese novel/folktale utterly escapes me, and I disagree with another review who feels that the "echo", i.e. room resonance, "adds to the story", particularly in the loud, and to me over-dramatized, passages, which are all too frequent. My overall impression is of listening to the soundtrack of an animated cartoon. I've wanted to read this book for a long time, but at this point, I'm simply hoping that I can stick out this reading through to the end.

Historia
The latest developments in physics have the potential to radically revise our understanding of the world: its makeup, its evolution, and the fundamental forces that drive its operation. Knocking on Heaven's Door is an exhilarating and accessible overview of these developments and an impassioned argument for the significance of science. There could be no better guide than Lisa Randall.

Tedious & condescending

Maybe it gets fresh and interesting in the second half; I couldn't make it that far.

Historia
Jan MacKell provides a detailed overview of the business between 1860 and 1930, focusing her research on the mining towns of Cripple Creek, Salida, Colorado City, and similar boomtown communities. She used census data, Sanborn maps, city directories, property records, marriage records, and court records to document and trace the movements of the women over the course of their careers, uncovering work histories, medical problems, and numerous relocations from town to town. She traces many to their graves, through years filled with abuse, disease, narcotics, and violence.

Surprising!
Revisado: 04-20-14
This is a really fascinating book, apparently very well researched, well-written, and very entertaining as well. It's a shame that the reader doesn't seem to understand the significance of paragraphs in written English. She spaces every sentence in the book exactly the same distance for the previous one regardless whether the ideas in them are connected in any way whatsoever. It's VERY distracting from a history that deserves much better. The book is worth putting up with the shortcomings of the performance, anyway.

Too fast, and...
Revisado: 10-19-09
... this reader should NOT "do" voices! The accents are awful! And even at "Slower" on my iPod, he's still in too much of a hurry. The book is a favorite, but I wish I hadn't spent the money on this reading. I agree with the reviewer who's going to avoid other books performed by this reader.
