Story Line Holds My Attention
Revisado: 05-24-24
I thought the story carried my attention all the way through. I suppose there is follow up sequels; I haven’t looked yet but will. Also the narration was well done with the different character’s voices. The narrator did a fine job. Yes, I would recommend this if you like the modern mixed with a little of cowboy.

Historia
A single company of US paratroopers—calling themselves the "Chosen Few"—arrived in eastern Afghanistan in late 2007 hoping to win the hearts and minds of the remote mountain people and extend the Afghan government's reach into this wilderness. Instead, they spent the next fifteen months in a desperate struggle, living under almost continuous attack, forced into a slow and grinding withdrawal, and always outnumbered by Taliban fighters descending on them from all sides.

This story brings the human emotion of what our boys went through and Afghanistan. It hits me in the pit of my stomach, haven gone through similar events in Vietnam. Yes these were boys that came out men from this experience. I say that because I see the pictures of us in Vietnam. I highly recommend this book but be aware of the gut wrenching tragedy of war and human endurance and suffering that is described here. I would think this story would connect with anyone who’s been in service and has seen war face-to-face. The author did an excellent job of narration and pulling us into the story as if we were right there. His descriptive writing style kept my attention, and it was hard to put this audible story down. Sincerely, SSG Paul Hernandez A co, 1/327th, 101st. Vietnam 68-69

Truthfully, this story isn’t for everyone. If you think something couldn’t happen like this , don’t make fun of it by reading it. Just be forewarned, it does have some information woven into the story that may be useful to some. I’m not being a “chicken little” be-crying that the sky is falling. Being prepared had been a motto of our forefathers as well as the Boy Scouts from times past. So you spend a little time or money preparing for that “ what if”. It’s a peace of mind that you can rest easier at or pass your preparedness in to your children. Someone might one day think you are a genius. The story is both informative and enjoyable with a touch of soberness. Again I’ll say it’s not for everyone because I can hear it now, “ this is crazy. It’ll never happen”. Just shut up and enjoy the storyline. Lol

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. Hoo-rah

This story could very well have been true. Story line is right on with that time in history. The narrator was superb in his telling. I didn't want the book up end. For the grunts, this will bring back memories.
