Devastated by the loss and unsure how to continue the rescue work they started, Murph has no choice but to jump back in when the worst happens. His longtime friend and current United States vice president, Aaron Ashley, has been a silent partner in the fight against trafficking. But in spite of having the best security available, his three daughters have been taken bound and blindfolded from their home by an extraction team that left no clues and no trace.

Exhausting
Revisado: 04-28-25
Heavy on the affective, light on the plot. There is a good story of Murph trying to find the 3 captured daughters of the vice president and the fight of good against evil. I’d say about 1/4 plot, 3/4 philosophy and grieving. Exhausting “tell not show” writing. Normally, I love Martin’s work. The other books in the series are great.

Best of the bunch except….
Revisado: 04-21-25
This may be the best of the three books. Lots of real problems to be worked through, many of them life altering. Lillian works through being a snob to becoming part of the group. Mark is accused of murder. Isabella comes down with TB. Expertly narrated, as always. The reason for the reduction in rating is because Granger gives us too much backstory throughout the story. I fast forwarded 10 or more times to get past it. Very frustrating. Despite it all, it was an excellent book filled with love and kind people supporting each other through the most difficult time of their lives.

A homey, happy book
Revisado: 04-12-25
This is a continuation of the previous book. Mary Kate's husband dies, so she leaves her family home and goes back to the boarding house. Once again, you have the same sweet cast of characters. Throughout the entire book, you have different people coming to the boarding house and working through their life‘s problems. Well done and a slightly better than the last one. There was a bit of repeating. Great narrator. A homey, happy book filled with real problems and the love, friendship and support to solve them.

exotic adventures
Revisado: 04-08-25
Alec goes to Arabia in search of good horses and locates The Black in a wealthy Bedouin tribe. He finds himself in a fight for tribal and pure bred supremacy. The story is a bit over the top and hard to believe, but is well told. The narrator aims at a child's audience which I didn’t like, as Muller in the previous book, spoke to an adult audience. The book is exciting and full of exotic adventures.

Historia
A body always tells a story - but this child’s was a blank page. Rita reached for the lantern. She trained its light on the child’s face. "Who are you?" she murmured, but the face said as little as the rest of her. It was impossible to tell whether, in life, these blunt and unfinished features had borne the imprint of prettiness, timid watchfulness, or sly mischief. If there had once been curiosity or placidity or impatience here, life had not had time to etch it into permanence. Only a very short time ago, the body and soul of this little girl had still been securely attached.

Who is the child? Where is the child?
Revisado: 03-31-25
Another beautifully written and lyrical book about a man boating on the river when a child's body floats over to him. He takes the girl to a nurse who says, "This cannot be! This cannot be!" And child comes back to life. There are many people who want the child—a bereaved mother, the grandfather, everyone who meets her, a criminal looking to blackmail. This is a little slow while so many characters are introduced. The author does a great job of helping the reader remember the characters and uncover truths and secrets they carry. The phrasing and word choice may be the most beautiful I’ve ever read. Wonderful narrator. Clean. Lovely book cover.

Historia
With her new husband George busy on a special mission for the British Museum, Frances has taken on an assignment of her own. The dowager Viscountess Wingate needs someone to sponsor her niece, Kate, for presentation to Queen Victoria. Frances—who understands society’s quirks and constraints as only an outsider can—is the perfect candidate. Kate is charming and intelligent, though perhaps not quite as sheltered as she might first appear. More worrying to Frances is the viscountess’s sudden deterioration.

Revisado: 03-22-25
What fun series this has been, though I see another column is pending. Francis is asked to introduce a girl to society and court. In doing so, she finds the girl's wealthy aunt is suddenly debilitated and incoherent. A great chase to discover a murder and thief in money grubbing family. Well crafted and narrated, as always.

Stupendous!
Revisado: 03-18-25
This was narrated by the late Frank Muller who did an amazing job of narrating over 200 books-voices and all. This story is Grisham at his best. It is about a big tort case trying the tobacco companies. Nicholas connives to get on the jury. He and his girlfriend attempt to manipulate the jury to vote for the tobacco companies despite overwhelming evidence of their extreme wrongdoing. Filled with colorful characters and a great plot. A wild ride!

Lyrical tale of two lives
Revisado: 03-10-25
I would give this book a four for the first 3/4 of it. And then it turned into a five. Thus the rating 4.5. Miss Meissner writes beautiful, lyrical books. The narrator was perfect. This was a story of a girl who had a crush on a boy who was killed in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911. She grieved deeply for that boy and eventually went to Ellis Island as a nurse. The companion story is of a woman who hurried to meet her husband for lunch to tell him of her long awaited pregnancy when the Twin Towers were hit in 2011. The reader visits each life as the story unfolds and we learn about God's loving hand in our lives and the importance of love. A lost, beautiful marigold scarf weaves these two stories together. This is a bonus book for the author could’ve stopped it chapters before but brought it to its true and beautiful conclusion. Excellent. Very clean, Christian novel.

Historia
When Cissy Ryan’s real mother comes to claim her from the workhouse, it’s not how she imagined. Her family’s tumbledown cottage has ice on the inside of its windows and is in an isolated, poverty-stricken village in the muddy Irish countryside. But when Cissy is allowed to help neighbour Colm Doyle and his horse named Blue on their milk round one morning, Cissy starts to feel as though friendship could get her through anything.

Charming Irish story with depth
Revisado: 02-24-25
This is a sweet story with a satisfying conclusion. Cissy lived in the workhouse until she was three when she and her mother were released. They learn to live a new life with the disagreeable grandfather in a small Irish town. Neighbor Colm watches over her as a big brother as she grows. Cissy is duped by a charming boy in the 'big house' and begins a journey to London where her life is changed as she makes many friends and advocates as well as people who contrive to take her most precious possession. Excellent narrator; very satisfying story. May seem a little too perfect.
