Historia
Dora and Daniel find themselves in a marriage that’s barely hanging on by a thread, until a tragedy binds them together; but for how long? is more problematic than ever. Every character we have grown to know and love has a trouble or "woe" of their own. Every thought or idea of the way we expected life to turn out for them is turned upside down. Luke and Fran have a new plan for their future, but there always seem to be obstacles in their way. Can they fulfill their dream?

IMPROVING
Revisado: 04-25-25
This series is getting better. Maybe because there are more characters to focus on in this book. Not that I like all of them, but that's to be expected, right? Ms. Lams performance is worse than ever. I'm curious, how it is that her females in the 1800's in Michigan mind you, all sound like southerners. Makes no sense and is one of the reasons I find it difficult to listen to her. Fortunately, Ms. O'Brien's storytelling seems to be getting better.

Historia
Yesterday's Dreams, book three in O'Brien's series called A Slip in Time, continues with our favorite characters, Francine, Luke, Dora, and Wade. The two sisters each love a Grainger brother, but one love has been fulfilled, while the other love is torn apart by two different centuries. Fran and Luke begin to make a wonderful life for themselves while living in her family's cottage. Many ups and downs keep this couple close to our hearts, as they struggle with decisions that will affect their future with fear of being discovered, and with illness that threatens the loss of life.

Sorry....SPOILER ALERT below:
Revisado: 04-25-25
Yup, back with book 3. This is the worst! How on earth can a woman write a book where a female in the 21st century, feels she must marry because she's pregnant??? Honestly! It would be one thing if it was a decision based on religion or something but it isn't. She decides to marry because she needs a man to help her support her unborn child. Daniel (her hubs in the 21st century) is so unrealistic and only partly developed as far as I'm concerned.

Historia
Yesterday's Hopes, book two in O'Brien's newest series, A Slip in Time, continues with Dora trying to find her sister. As she becomes aware of the possibility of time travel, she begins to explore how she, too, can do the same in order to find Fran. Dora suspects her sister is in the 1880s due to some clues she left behind, so she tries to imitate the way she believes Francine has traveled using their grandmother's precious quilts, which have been passed down through generations.

I can't believe I read book 2
Revisado: 04-25-25
I did a very critical review of Book 1. I had already purchased several of the books (through book 5 I think) so as not to waste my money, I listened. I still do not like Belinda Lams performance. She can't keep her characters voices straight, frequently making one sound like the other. I also think the sex is too much for the 1800's so it makes the book seem even more unbelievable. Dora (younger sister) is especially annoying as she is deeply in love with Wade one moment and then decides she can't stay in the 1800's and oh yes... there's someone back there that she was getting close to. Really?? That came out of nowhere!! Which is one of my biggest complaints with the writing. Details are added out of nowhere and brought into the story as an afterthought. And yes, I'm still going to read the next one.

Waste of time
Revisado: 04-17-25
I cannot believe I wasted 8 hours on this book. Everyone said it was great. I have no idea what others were hearing. The characters are shallow and under-developed and annoying. The couple that falls in love don't even know each other. And if it's "love at first sight" then write it that way... How it ends is ridiculous and unreal. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

As she is going through desks and drawers, Fran comes across a key that opens Gram’s trunk, which is filled with quilts made by generations of Clark women. The key was one she had always loved as a child. Filled with nostalgia, Fran spreads the quilts across the room, and while shedding tears for the loss of her grandmother, she suddenly finds herself transported to 1875, and she is not even sure how she got there.

Good story idea, poorly executed!
Revisado: 04-17-25
The idea of this time travel story is a good one. It is poorly written however. Ms. O'Brien tells the story inconsistently. She adds details as an afterthought, as though she just thought of something and none of it ties together. Making it worse is the performer who can't keep her characters'voices consistent. The way she presents is annoying and a difficult listen. I was so let down by this book. I thought the second book would improve. Stay tuned...it does not.

Great story. TERRIBLE NARRATOR
Revisado: 11-25-20
I love all the Shawn Inmon Middle Falls Time Travel books. I've read them all on the Kindle and wanted to experience them again with Audible. This book was impossible to finish because of the narrator. Her voice, the inflection she used, her tone, everything was annoying! Couldn't even manage to finish it!! If interested, go read it on the Kindle because it's a good story.

In 1906 I was barely over 14 years old, and it was my wedding day. My older sister, Helen, came to my room, took me by the hand, and sat me down on the bed. She said, "You've always been a good girl, Maude, and done what I told you. Now you're going to be a married woman, and he will be the head of the house. When you go home tonight after your party, no matter what he wants to do to you, you have to let him do it. Do you understand?"

Loved This Book
Revisado: 11-11-17
I read the kindle version, then decided to ignore the reviews about the annoying narrator and download the audible version. This is my favorite book. The story stands on it's own and the narrators voice was not an issue for me. Maude is an amazing journey of a young girl, grown to a woman and then old lady. Her story is inspiring and sad. She leaves an amazing legacy to her granddaughter (the author), but also to us, the reader. Read this and you won't be disappointed!

Revisado: 11-11-17
I read this on my kindle years ago and it just stuck with me. I was finally able to find it again and downloaded the audible version. I've read/listened to this book 4 times now and have enjoyed it every time! The tale is so real, addressing issues of slavery and the choices we make. It proves family is not always the one we are born to, but is often found outside of that.

This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.
