A great fill in between seasons

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-23-09

Like the audio books, this narration is a great fill-in between the second and third seasons. In fact, that is exactly what it is.

Owen and Tosh's funerals have come and gone and the remianing Torchwood team are trying to pull themselves together again. Martha (from Doctor Who, for those of you new to Torchwood) calls on them to help her with a strange case in Switzerland, where she continues to work for UNIT. Jack, Ianto, and Gwen hop on a plane to come to her aid.

The story is the length of an actual TV episode, minus the commercials. There are special effects and music. Each character is narrated by the actor who plays them on TV, making this audio especially fun to listen too. The story is interesting and it was fun to have a case that takes place outside of their normal jurisdiction.

Have a listen while you (and I) wait for the third season to premiere.

For kids only

This is a really good way to introduce the younger set to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, who may find it difficult to read the books or to young to watch the movies.

I didn't realize this was geared for kids when I dowloaded it. As an adult, I was unable to finish listening to this narration because I found the voices annoying. If you listen to this with your children, be aware that many of the characters have high pitched voices, sounding like the Smurfs or munchkins (which of course, children love!). The narration of the start of Frodo and Co.'s journey seemed to go and on and they hadn't left the realms of Hobbit lands yet. I think they should have cut this down a bit so children don't start to get bored with the narration.

None-the-less, if you have a young one that you want to get into the science fiction realm, this is the perfect thing to listen too. When they get older, show them the movies and let them read the books for the complete Lord of the Rings experience.

Barack Obama Inaugural Address (1/20/09) Audiolibro Por Barack Obama arte de portada

Hope at last!

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-23-09

I want to thank Audible for having this speech available. I was one of many who missed it. I hoped the news service would show it again later in the night - and they didn't (not even CNN).

Reading President(!) Obama's speech in the newspaper is nothing compared to actually listening to it. He reminds me a lot of John Kennedy, who was also an eloquent speaker. He gives this ailing country much hope in his words. It's been a long time since I have felt hopeful that this country will recover from its many woes and that we, as a nation, can help President Obama in its recovery - Yes, we can!

May his four years in office be good and safe ones for him, his family, his administration, and us all.

My fav of Tennants narrations

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-23-09

Pirates and Doctor Who, how can you not love that! This is my favorite story of the tales narrated by David Tennant.

Tennant's voice talent really comes into this audio, as there are so many different characters and he does a different voice for every one of them. He will be truly missed on the show! I hope he continues with these narrations, as other past actors who have played the Doctor do.

Highly recommended!

A great ghost story!

You just can't go wrong with a ghost story, especially when it envolves Tennant's Doctor, Rose, and Mickey!

Even if you've read the book, listen to this anyway. As usual, David Tennant's enthusiasm really makes this audio (and his immitation of Mickey is right on!). It's great just to listen to him read this story as a Doctor Who fan.

Highly Recommended!

Fantastic, a must listen!

Unlike the other Doctor Who audio books, this one has a soundtrack and sound effects which completely adds to the fun story line. The only thing missing is this story actually being made into an Doctor Who episode.

What can I say about my favorite Doctor narrating this tale? David Tennant has such great talent! He does various accents (The ones with American accents are the bad guys, hmmm) for each character, you can tell which is female, which male, which alien, etc. He reads with such excitement you can tell he is as much of a Doctor Who fan as we the listeners (and viewers) are. Makes you wonder why he is leaving the show?

Even if you've read the book, you've got to listen to this just to hear the excitement in David Tennant's narration, the soundtrack and the special effects.

Highly recommended!

The Tale of the Body Thief Audiolibro Por Anne Rice arte de portada

Good to listen too, but old copy

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-23-09

First let me say that this had to have been copied off of a tape because there were times when the narration would slow down or there would be extra noise in the background. Don't let this, however, stop you from listening to Richard E. Grant's great narration of this story.

You can still listen to this tale even if you haven't read/listened to the other vampire tales. I read this years ago, since I'm in college I don't always have time to read a book, so choose to listen to the story again. I still enjoyed Lestat's new venture at discovering he has a human side, even if it was forced upon him. There are new characters introduced and some you'll recognize from past vampire tales.

Have fun with this and hope you continue on with the other tales (though if you want it unabridged, read the books).

Hello, I'm Eugenie, I'm a fan and . . .

Total

This book is not really centered on the Torchwood crew, but the people of Cardiff who just can't seem to stop saying "Hello, I'm (fill in name). . . " and giving intimate pieces of info. about themselves to anyone who will listen, which makes for some funny moments. However, there are people immune to this bizarre happenstance, the Torchwood crew among them. It is their job to figure out why nearly everyone in Cardiff won't stop saying, "Hello, I'm . . ."

Burn Gorman narrates this story well, immitating his fellow Torchwood team spot on, complete with Welsh accents and a somewhat American accent for Jack. I really liked his narration and look forward to any other stories he may do again.

My only complaint would be that the ending was tied up a bit too quickly, otherwise I thought the story imaginative, funny, and the action placed well within the story.
