Disappointing
Revisado: 10-18-23
I like the protagonists, but, the plot isn’t Baldacci at his best. It’s pretty far-fetched and were it another author, I would have returned the book to Audible. I just kept hoping it would get better. It didn’t and I’ve wasted a credit.

I was thrilled when Audible announced a new Charles Todd. I’ve listened and loved every one and can’t wait for the next. Simon Vance is the perfect voice for Rutledge.
If you haven’t read this series, please do. The characters, plots, and historical references are excellent and I always listen beginning to end in one day!

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

An absolute must read
Revisado: 02-02-23
Some people think Prince Harry is a hypocrite for writing this book to make money after saying he and the Duchess of Essex wish to be allowed privacy to live their lives in the USA away from the media. I have found his book astonishing. His father, brother, all the Windsors, and the British press should be ashamed of their treatment of the Duke and Duchess. It seems completely appropriate for the Duke to find a way to pay for his family’s security and wellbeing. This is a must read exposé.

Historia
In 1942, the Gestapo sent out an urgent transmission: "She is the most dangerous of all Allied spies. We must find and destroy her." The target in their sights was Virginia Hall, a Baltimore socialite who talked her way into Special Operations Executive, the spy organization dubbed Winston Churchill's "Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." She became the first Allied woman deployed behind enemy lines and - despite her prosthetic leg - helped to light the flame of the French Resistance, revolutionizing secret warfare as we know it.

An absolutely must read
Revisado: 03-15-21
I never write reviews, but, A Woman of No Importance is the best biography (my favorite genre) I’ve read. My father was a member of OSS and his book, A Spy in Rome, has been called by The Wall Street Journal, “the best book written by spy about spying.” I so wish he were alive so I could ask him if he had ever met Virginia Hall.
I recommend this biography for its historical importance, for its perspective on the modern CIA, and for the honor it does to selfless women whose commitment to making a difference put themselves in mortal danger in the global war to protect democracy.
This is a beautifully written biography about a heroine of great importance. Thank you Juliet Stevenson!

Historia
Are leaders born or made? Where does ambition come from? How does adversity affect the growth of leadership? Does the man make the times or do the times make the man? In Leadership, Goodwin draws upon four of the presidents she has studied most closely - Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson (in civil rights) - to show how they first recognized leadership qualities within themselves, and were recognized by others as leaders.

Ms. Goodwin never disappoints. In LEADERSHIP she captures the interplay between the private and the public personae of four American Presidents and the contributions they made to American Democracy. It will not surprise anyone that Abraham Lincoln begins and ends this must read book.

Historia
Jack London was born a working-class, fatherless San Franciscan in 1876. In his youth, he was a boundlessly energetic adventurer on the bustling west coast—by and by playing the role of hobo, sailor, and oyster pirate. From his vantage point at the margins of Gilded Age America, he witnessed such iniquity and abuses that he became a life long socialist and advocate for reform. Award-winning western historian James L. Haley paints a vivid portrait of London—adventurer, social reformer, and the most well-known American writer of his generation.
