Like listening to stories from a friend
Revisado: 11-29-16
This was a great book and wonderful listen. There are plenty of lessons learned, imparted through stories of how the author learned those lessons. This makes it a fairly easy listen for a non-fiction book. You can feel the author’s love for both aviation, and the particular airplane the book it titled for.
The narrator did a good job. Certain types of books (first person experience stories in this case) require the right tone, and feeling to be fully appreciated. This is one of those and the narrator succeeds.
Listening to it was like sitting down with a pilot-friend and hearing flying stories.

Wasn't for me, might be for you
Revisado: 11-14-16
The description sounded like this book should have been right up my alley. I like stories that pull elements from events happening in real life and satirize them. The cover at the time of my reading (listening) of the book claimed fans of Douglas Adams type of sci-fi humour would like it. While it started out ok, what’s not included in the sample is that instead of focusing on the hilarity that could have been had with the storyline, the plot goes after the low hanging fruit of vulgarity and bathroom humor. I’m not against vulgarity or non-stop innuendo when integrated into some semblance of a plot. The book had a story hook which was great… but didn’t deliver for me. Maybe now you know what to expect going in, you might have a chance if liking it.
I was disappointed because I didn't expect the book to go the way it did, however if you go in expecting something similar to family guy, american dad, with elements of american pie thrown in, this will probably be enjoyable and funny for you.
The narrator did a decent job. It was easy enough to keep track of the characters.

Emperor Mollusk. Intergalactic Menace. Destroyer of Worlds. Conqueror of Other Worlds. Mad Genius. Ex-Warlord of Earth. Not bad for a guy without a spine. But what's a villain to do after he's done... everything. With no new ambitions, he's happy to pitch in and solve the energy crisis or repel aliens invaders should the need arise, but if he had his way, he'd prefer to be left alone to explore the boundaries of dangerous science. Just as a hobby, of course. Retirement isn't easy though.

Fun and Wacky
Revisado: 11-05-16
Though it took several attempts to get into, I ended up liking this book quite a lot. It's rediculous but in the vein of really fun and adventure driven sci fi. The narrator was excellent. All the voices were distinct, consistent, and seemed appropriate to the personality of the character. Will look for more with this narrator.

‘Look, see, I told you I’m snarky’ got old fast
Revisado: 10-29-16
The description for this made it sound like something I’d enjoy. It started out well enough, the character is supposed to be sassy and dangerous. What killed it for me was instead of having the character’s stream of thought and the story convey how snarky she is, the character kept stopping to stay “Look! look look!!! See what I just did there. I told you I’m sassy/snarky/dangerous!” I would have preferred a more show-don’t-tell approach. In the end, it just made the character get on my nerves and I stopped caring. If you don’t mind that as much, then this story should be entertaining enough.
Narration was good, and changed tones appropriately to get the character across.
Basically, I would have rated this higher if it wasn’t for the characters need to keep saying ‘look, see I told you I’m snarky’ grr.

A good book that could have been shorter
Revisado: 10-20-16
I am torn, on the one hand this book was immersive and the mystery was good enough to really want to finish the book . On the other hand...I had to take a 3 month break from listening because it hadn't finished yet. Honestly would have rated the story portion higher if it had been just a few chapters less long winded. Still recommend it to fans of murder mysteries and mysteries in general... Just be forewarned the time commitment. I did guess the murderer long before hand, but I think that was intended based on the clues I picked up on... It is really the delving into why and how a situation came to spiral out of control in which this book shines.
The narrator was excellent and a big part of making a longer book worth listening to. I plan to look for more books with this narrator. Accents and male voices were quite well done and it was easy to keep track of who was speaking.
If you like long mysteries where you are really supposed to spend a lot of time with the characters, then this is probably a book for you.

Strength, speed, and endurance are all part of a demon's physical makeup, but he must be taught to be sneaky, cruel, and ruthless and of course to ignore personal hygiene. A satisfying conclusion to the Circles in Hell bks
Revisado: 07-02-16
This is apparently the last book of the series, and it shifts gears a bit as instead of a mystery or broken equipment, Steve has to deal with his new role as a demon in hell . The story progresses as we follow Minion through his attempts to become demonic. Favourite characters return, with some new ones added in, and there are still some wonderful plot surprises encountered.
Narration continued in the same vein as the previous 3 books. The tone and sound of characters remaining consistent with previous books.
Series can sometimes drop off as they progress, but |enjoyed this one as much as previous instalments. The entire series is worth listening to and this last book gives a nice satisfying conclusion .

Basic overview and intro
Revisado: 05-24-16
This is a very quick guide to what Krav Maga is, it’s history, and some basics. The book does not train you nor is it intended to (and says so right at the beginning). There is a companion pdf with this book which is essential to understanding what is being described. This is one book where it might be best to read it rather than listen because of the need to have a visual representation. If you have no idea what Krav Maga is then this will be a good book to find out what it is, if you are already training then probably not. The book does a good job of explaining that it you should get proper certified training. The narrator does a good job of reading the information.

Now instead of focusing on her business, she's doing j-turns in the middle of the night, using dental floss as a weapon, and hiding in a strange bathroom to solve a kidnapping.

LOL
Revisado: 05-23-16
I really like this book. It fell into the ‘nice, fun, cozy listen’ category for me.
I’ll admit, the main reveal point regarding Julep’s secretary is something I had guessed early into the book (and this might have been on purpose by the author, I’m not sure), but despite that, I really wanted to find out how long it would take the main character to figure it out, and the road to her finding out what was up with Kaeli (Kaylee?) was funny and entertaining. The book has elements of crazy situational comedy; characters you want to spend time with; and a lot of witty, funny lines. Seriously, some of the descriptions made me do one of those ‘burst-chuckle laughs’ as I was listening.
I enjoyed the narrator. It was a different narrator from the one in a previous Eryn Scott book I’d listened to, but this one was just as good. Each character had a distinct voice while still being distinctly quirky, making them easy to tell apart. The voice used for Andrew was good (i.e. NOT over gruff or annoyingly over low register-ed). The voice used for the main character’s running interior narrative is exactly what I would have made it sound like.
In a book like this where there is comedy in how the characters interact; the various situations they find themselves in; and how they react to these situations; a good narrator/author combo can make the book move from good to great. Especially with the narrator needing to put sarcasm, snark, or ‘eye-roll’ into her tone to really get the characters across. This book succeeded there. Granted, some of the scenes were a bit over the top, but they fit in with the book’s overall tone, and added to some of the punchlines.
I got this book for an honest review, and am really glad I had the chance to listen to it. I was about to start a cross-country move when I started the book, and it definitely helped keep me sane. Normally I would have given it 4-stars, but I kept wanting to listen to this book as I was doing various ‘listen-friendly’ tasks, so that bumps it up to 5. Would recommend to anyone wanting a fun, cute-story; and who appreciates sit-com type stories with a plot that makes you want to keep spending time with the characters just to see what craziness will happen.

In the Shadow of the Moon tells the story of the most exciting and challenging years in spaceflight, with two superpowers engaged in a titanic struggle to land one of their own people on the moon. Drawing on interviews with astronauts, cosmonauts, their families, technicians, and scientists, as well as rarely seen Soviet and American government documents, the authors craft a remarkable story of the golden age of spaceflight as both an intimate human experience and a rollicking global adventure.

Good book on space, really good listen
Revisado: 05-09-16
I’ll admit I have a lot of interest in space programs, and both the historical and current progress made in space exploration. Therefore the description of the book grabbed me right off the bat. I have read a number of space related books, both paper and audio, and this ranks high in that list. A lot of interesting facts, anecdotes, and stories that let you learn the different personalities of the mission teams, particularly the flight crews. I knew a lot of the problems encountered in the space program from the engineering side of things beforehand, but learned a lot more about them from the flight crew perspective in this book. I would love another book or if this turned into a ‘space-set’ of books covering unmanned missions and their mission control side in the same vein as this one – but I guess that shows how much I enjoyed the presentation of this book.
Narration on a book like this which includes facts, interviews, and papers can be tricky. The narrator here had, for me, the perfect voice quality, tone, intonations and pacing. There are both explanatory passages, stories, and interview excerpts throughout the book, which I had no trouble distinguishing. I especially appreciated the change in voice made when reading a quote which not only distinguished it from the rest of the section, but overall made for a very nice listening experience. I would definitely recommend listening over eye-ball reading the book.
I’d recommend to all, and especially to people interested in space, or history, or human/personality-interactions in team settings.
I received a review copy of this book for my honest opinion.

Shows the power of story to foster engagement
Revisado: 05-03-16
The general premise of the book is definitely useful, stories help keep people engaged in conversation with you. There was for me a bit too much of the book for me...at some point half way through I wanted more story along with the facts being presented, to do exactly what the author was trying to get across - keeping a reader (in this case) engaged.
The narration was ok. It seemed a bit robotic at first, but continued listening let me get used to the narrator. There were a couple of words whose pronunciation jarred me out of listening (specifically the pronunciation of the word 'mbira' sticks out in my memory).
Overall, the subject matter is worth a listen.
