Historia
A murdered opera singer. A duke drenched in her blood. For Bow Street Officer Hugh Marsden, the brutal killing is a straightforward case. Ever since his exile from polite society, the chance to arrest a high and mighty peer of the realm has never presented itself. Hugh won't snub the opportunity now. But Audrey Sinclair, the Duchess of Fournier, is certain her husband is wrongly accused, and she's determined to prove it to the arrogant Bow Street officer, even if she must employ her most peculiar ability—or perhaps curse—to guide her investigation. After all, a duchess can do as she pleases.

The author peppers in modern language and has a poor understanding of the era. When writing fiction, the structure needs to be believed to allow the reader to follow the purely fictional. The narrator gave a good performance.

Very Engrossing
Revisado: 10-12-24
Very engrossing well written story. One of those books you think about when you're busy taking care of those things that must be done. Amy Scanion's narration is very impressive. In fact, to find my next book, I'll search through books narrated by Amy.
C.S. Harris has done it again, one of her best.

Lady Evangeline Raine prefers animals to people and has no interest in marriage—much to the dismay of her flirty younger sister, Viola. Because their father has one rule: Viola may be courted, only if Effie has a suitor as well. Saddled with debt, Gage Croft, Duke of Vale, is determined to rebuild his estates. When the owner of his vowels offers him a fortune to charm the impervious Lady Evangeline for the season so Lady Viola can be courted, the game is on, even if it means pretending to seduce an unconventional wallflower.

Well written and well narrated
Revisado: 10-06-24
Thank goodness Ms Howard engaged Mary Jane to narrate. I enjoy her writing but can't get through her other books due to poor narration. It's is audible after all and readers deserve a talented narrator. And NO i'm never buying a 'Virtual' narrated book.
Good story, fun, laugh out loud and there's heat, lots of heat. This one went into my read again file.

If nor for Alex Wyndham
Revisado: 07-26-24
This story is just too drippy romantic and juvenile. It ask too often for the reader to ignore truths, such as one person being bed ridden with a wasting disease who gets up and rides to the hounds. Just poor writing through out.

Historia
He is the last duke standing...the sole remaining bachelor of the three self-proclaimed Decadent Dukes. Yet, Davina MacCallum's reasons for searching out the handsome Duke of Brentworth have nothing to do with marriage. Scottish lands were unfairly confiscated from her family by the Crown and given to his. A reasonable man with vast holdings can surely part with one trivial estate, especially when Davina intends to put it to good use. Brentworth, however, is as difficult to persuade as he is to resist.

Good story
Revisado: 07-11-24
The story was fine but the narrator is one that i don't care for. She doesn't hold my attention, which creates lots of going back 30 seconds or even 60. The flow of the story is ruined.
If you like the narrator, you'll enjoy this story.

Revisado: 04-26-24
So many hours of enjoying an engrossing story with excellent narration! Not for the faint of heart. (I admit to advancing the story in a certain spot). But this did not diminish the story, or my enjoyment. So happy to have found this author. Gildart Jackson does an excellent job of narration. A book I've listed as "listen again' .

Fortunately, his smuggling venture brings in more than a few sovereigns. But when he tells a local woman about the sudden death of her brother, money is the least of his worries. Meanwhile, King Henry's insecurity is testing the country to breaking point. He quietly seethes and plots, while rumors of a man claiming to be the rightful heir to the throne of England cause poor decisions.

Times have changed
Revisado: 12-22-23
Long, long ago I would NOT have thought the heroine was immature with poor reasoning skills. But I think that today. This book was written decades ago when women were struggling to find their strength. This was one of my favorite books in 1979. That was about 44 years ago and my life unfolded in ways I could not have imagined. I am no longer entertained by a young woman who has to break the rules yet not does not mature with the experiences. Nor do i even like the hero.

Sorry, the first Simon Green's Ishmael audiobook was mildly entertaining but the second one was saved only by Gildart Jackson's narration. These stories would probably play well as shows with visual humor. One and done

Historia
As the mists roll over the fens and enigmatic lights twinkle in the distance, only the locals know their way along the hidden paths through the mysterious watery terrain of one of England's most beautiful and sometimes dangerous places. Detective Matt Ballard may have retired but there's still plenty going on in the fens to keep him busy. Someone trashes an old lady's garden and daubs her isolated cottage with hateful graffiti. Emilia Swain seems to be totally harmless, so why is she being targeted?

Who wrote this?
Revisado: 08-28-23
This is the first Joy Ellis book I've read of this type. Just awful. Wish I hadn't listened to it and only did so because I had faith that Ms Ellis's writing would come through in the end. One of the characters becomes a shell of her former self and her usual beautiful painting style becomes vastly disturbing instead. And there's never ever any reason for her change, for her fading into a shell of who she used to be. Ugh. A book to bring you down, so glad I didn't pay for it too!
