Historia
A siege is approaching, and the city has little time to prepare. The people have no food and no weapons, and the enemy has sworn to slaughter them all. To save the city will take a miracle, but what it has is Orhan. A colonel of engineers, Orhan has far more experience with bridge building than battles, is a cheat and a liar, and has a serious problem with authority. He is, in other words, perfect for the job.

Lackluster Conclusion
Revisado: 12-22-23
excellent narrator as always, 3rd book has constant contrived deus ex moments to bail Darrow out of his latest imbecilic out of character gaff. gets tedious fast, made it to chapter 58 and said no more. I will not be returning to finish, nor will I be reading anymore from this author.
It's a shame considering how invested I was after books 1 & 2.

Genuine 5/5
Revisado: 09-15-23
I initially only picked up the story because of the narrator. Pacey being who he is carries any material regardless of quality. It was then, a pleasant surprise that the material itself was so excellent in its own right. I enjoyed this reading so much, it was an intense disappointment to find it was the authors 1 and only book...so far.
I'm terrible at reviewing the details of a book without spoiling, instead I'll say give it a shot. I wager you won't be disappointed. After all, you can't possibly dislike both the story and the narrator!

Fantastic Fantasy
Revisado: 06-07-22
a wonderful book of storybook fantasy combined with just enough detail to feel more real and make me feel slightly uncomfortable. a good thing. King seems to delight in adding just the right amount of extra detail to remind you that unlike the storybook edition life is a bit messy. The narrators style was a huge factor in relation to the tone as well. That being said, it's not macabre.
I loved the book, but I'm the target audience, if you don't enjoy medieval fantasy you might not enjoy this either.
The narrator was stellar, a good listen for the fairly lengthy world building at the start and superb in all things Flagg. Initially his SUDDEN loud sections were off putting but in the end I ended up wishing more narrators/authors included the sudden emphasis of emotion. The sudden piercing screeches didn't take me out of the moment, instead it enhanced the feeling of unease King cultivated in me. I only wish Peter had had such a forceful emotion at the end, like Flagg was with his threats.
My only complaint is the inconsistent spacing of silence in between chapters. Some sections would last as long as 10s and others were a more natural 1-2s than many audiobooks have. I would frequently be tricked into thinking it the book had paused, though I guess that's a me problem.
9/10 easily

good not great
Revisado: 01-23-22
I enjoyed it, but I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories, I wouldnt expect someone who doesn't enjoy fantasy to have a good time.
Voice acting always great with Michael kramer. Though it felt less inspired than other readings of his, perhaps it was the content or the absence of Kate reading, his wife
