This lovely story celebrates some of the most endearing aspects of fiction. The Reading List is a wonderful summer reading book for anyone who has loved a book, loved a library, or loved someone else who has.

I've had A Tree Grows in Brooklyn on my to be read list for about a decade and it surpassed my expectations. If a book about a young girl with a passion for reading appeals to you, I highly recommend it. At first I thought this was an American version of Angela's Ashes, but to me it was so much more.
I thought the narrator did a wonderful job. Sometimes the accents for the same character were inconsistent, but this usually happened after large periods of time passed. The accents didn't change much between characters, but that was largely appropriate for a story centered around one family.

This was a fascinating novel! I appreciated the detailed description of daily struggles as triumphs in the life of someone with a severe concussion. I hope I will be more mindful / understanding in my interactions with others who may appear fine, but may have an invisible impairment and I have a greater appreciation for the complex difficulties individuals with TBIs may face. The treatment sounds miraculous and has me wondering about its potential success other brain and cognitive traumas. This book is great if you're looking for something that will force you to reflect on your reactions to others and ponder future implications.

Funny in Farsi is amusing with a brutal honesty in regards to both its characters and its social commentary.

This book covers a fascinating, though macabre, subject told with a dry wit that kept me amused when I would otherwise need to step away. The performance accentuates this humor. I would probably love this book with another performer, but I doubt I'd find myself laughing out loud and insisting that others listen to various parts if it weren't for Gabra Zackman's narration.
While extremely interesting, the one chapter that seems out of place in a book about diseases/plagues is the one on lobotomies. I got the sense that the author couldn't help but tell this story, though it may be more appropriate in a separate book on abhorrent medical practices.
My favorite parts of this book are when Jennifer Wright takes the time to step back and comment on society's response to these illnesses.
