I loved this book. Great interplay of characters- very much a great story of the old west - the various storylines within the story were all easy to follow with a lovable hero and really bad guys you love to hate- I listened to the whole book in one day - held my attention the entire time. I want to read all West’s books now.

For a free listening experience, it’s great. I’ve paid for less interesting books. There’s a lot of mystery, suspense, twists and turns. The writing and reading is good. Surprise ending! A good read!

Actually I loved this book. It was no nonsense, inciteful, interesting, well researched and very well read. I doubt if many people know much about the world of crematory/mortuary work except the people in it. Most folks think they know about it because they have visited mortuaries to view loved ones, watched a lot of CSI and the documentary on Egyptian crypts but this is so comprehensive. Since no one is getting out of here alive, everybody ought to listen to or read this book. What an eye opener. speaking of which, I did see the super glue solution coming.

Pablo is a 5 star teacher!

Pablo impresses me more than any language teacher I’ve ever had. He doesn’t rush. He uses short commonly spoken phrases using a few verbs to finish with a large variety of objects and events, places etc., to cover many topics, helping us learn to communicate just about anything simply in a way you don’t have to assimilate unnecessary words, verb tenses and complicated sentences right away. We get simple-slow and easy-the basics-common situations and Pablo goes to more complicated stuff very gradually. He does that better than anyone. He offers clarification quickly and succinctly. I only question the pronunciation of the letter C in say, the word “gracias”. Is the “C” to be sounded like an “S” or a “TH”? Not a big deal but I just wonder. Pablo sounds them “TH”. I always thought they sounded “S”. He’s good and likable.

Best audiobook for necessary everyday French.

The great thing about this book is that everyday necessary French phrases you need all the time in France are taught. The author gives the phrases in English and French more than once, with the first and last times in French up to speed and slowly during repeats. The author understands most of us don't just pick this up the first time. The reviews at the end are invaluable. This audio book is the best I've found for really teaching the phrases you must know when in France. I was there as a novice so I know.

This is the first book on Investing (and I’ve read a few,) that actually gave me concrete ideas and methods on how, where, and when to invest in the stock market. I was taking notes the whole time. Thank you Mr. Kratter. Finally, someone who actually understands the perspective of an average person who knows virtually nothing about investing, and would like to get started intelligently, without throwing all their money away on the advice of friends, family, former brokers and wildly attractive companies whose stock prices are outrageously high. How do you start without losing all your money and then being told to be happy about it because it has given you “invaluable experience” to build on—of course, you need to start saving again but “next time you will be much smarter!” Seriously? I’m following Warren Buffet and Mr. Kratter around like a groupie.

When first scanning the description of this book, I was intrigued by the subject; a sea captain murdered by island natives on his own ship? My heart went out to this good, brave man, responsible for crew, safe passage, and fulfilling his obligation to the shipping company by which he was employed. This was indeed a mystery. I wondered why we didn’t learn more about this sea captain’s character at early introduction of him in the book. It was only much later when his shipboard behavior was revealed, that all sympathy toward this man is lost. This author wrapped things up very nicely for the reader and I enjoyed listening to the story unfold. I especially liked the reader. I will look for more books read by Dennis Boutsikaris. I hope to find more non-fiction adventure stories/mysteries like this by the author as well. Nicely done. I give it 4 Stars. Some of the events became unwieldy, and others leave the reader in a bit of a quandary, which was probably intended. I feel this could have stood a bit more editing, but overall a very good, well read book.

A review of How To Mount Aconcagua

This book is not only interesting and informative (I totally get black-magic-marking, re-marking & taking multiple pictures of luggage) but also very funny as well. I like that it is non fiction and something author actually did. However, I thought Mr. Hodgson was kidding when he said the mess tent at his base camp was named the “Ernesto Hernandez” mess tent. These Argentinians must be desperate to be recognized for ANYTHING. I liked learning about Tang and the guy who created it apparently also created Hot Rocks, Cool Whip & jello. Mr. Hodgson got carried away over his research on blood/physiology and how it all changes with altitude. He lost me long before finishing his explanation of that. I perked back up when he spoke of Diamox and its magical properties. I don’t know why every mountain climber doesn’t just put themselves on a Diamox DRIP the moment they reach base camp. I love the appendix at the end-actually took notes just in case I ever decide to climb a mountain. One thing is for certain, I would deal with the extra 14 oz. just to carry with me one of those pop open mini-chairs! Also, since the big deal is the Summit and so many of those novice mountain climbers negate THAT accomplishment by dying on the way down, how come they don’t have an army of sherpas climb to the top of the death traps know as the Himalayas and construct some sort of steel-cabled ZIP lines for those poor, beleaguered, snow-blind, incoherent, helpless people who crawl to the very top and just stand around up there looking for their warm drink and tent—they could just grab those guys, snap their harness to a 1000 ft. zip line and let ‘em go. The ride would clear their senses and get them into breathable air, nice toasty tent and some warm yak milk. Geez. Anyway, Mr. Hodgson gets his readers thinking and listening with pleasure—the whole point of being a writer. Too bad everything else he has written looks like weird science fiction. But THIS gets a solid 5 Stars from me.
