I love this series! The thinking girl's romance.
Revisado: 07-30-22
This series is not a simple adolescent romance romp. Lara Jean is a smart girl with her own drive & ambition, who is also a naive romantic with much to learn about life. The stories are rich with multiple threads & excellent writing. One of the few books I've listened to more than once. I love Lara Jean's ultimately optimistic view of life.

When listeners last heard Maisie Dobbs, it was 1938, and the world was on the brink of war. Maisie herself was on a dangerous mission inside Nazi Germany, where she encountered an old enemy and the Führer himself. In In This Grave Hour, a year has passed, and Maisie is back home in England - yet neither she nor her nation is safe. Britain has just declared war on Germany and is mobilizing for the devastating battle ahead.

Most Maisie books are better, plodding melancholic
Revisado: 07-28-22
One of my least favorite Maisie Dobbs. I have Loved most of them. This one drug for me & the Narration was just toooo gently melancholic toooo much of the timmme. Would prefer more mention of the wisdom Maisie learned from Maurice & since on her own. And, it is past time for the flair of a little romance.
I lost track of the story in the soulful drone of the narration & plodding tempo. I quit caring too. It's not danger across enemy lines I'm looking for, as much as wisdom, romance & personal success for Maisie.

Write More Books, Jane! :)
Revisado: 09-05-21
I've listened to all of JSH's books, but one. (The Witches... is too dark for me). My favorite book is Bluff. I enjoyed the poker references, I'd enjoy another book with that protagonist. I really like the relatableness and/or intelligence/gutsyness of her women. I like seeing a woman who has a life that doesn't depend on a man, but who does want a healthy relationship. I like seeing a woman who works her way past settling for a commitment-phobic man. I like that all this happens without the protagonist having children. I like that there is a backdrop of money.
