Dated but very useful
Revisado: 03-15-25
The stories are great warnings and examples, if a bit unreliable to my situation.
Overall this is full of great advice. It is a bit dated in places, as one would expect from something this old.
I understand the why this narrator was chosen, but she got on my nerves towards the end.

Historia
In a technologically-saturated era where nearly everything can be effortlessly and digitally reproduced, we're all hungry to carve out our own unique personalities, our own bespoke personae, to stand out and be seen. As the forces of social media and capitalism collide, and individualism becomes more important than ever across a wide array of industries, "branding ourselves" or actively defining our selves for others has become the norm. Yet, this phenomenon is not new. In Self-Made, Tara Isabella Burton shows us how we arrived at this moment of fervent personal-branding.

Might need to read the print version
Revisado: 07-20-24
This title is one I might have to go back and get a print version of so I can mark it up. I really appreciate the level of research that went into tracing the history of how people have created their public image.

Good Theory, But…
Revisado: 04-30-24
This is a good theory on Lyme Disease and other tick borne illnesses. And while the author proves several points, there is still not enough solid evidence to say either way.
That being said, I am glad I read this title and look forward to seeing what else we can learn about tick borne diseases and illnesses.
Also, I plan to be more vigilant about ticks.

Nothing New, But Still Helpful
Revisado: 03-28-24
There wasn’t a lot of new information for me in this book, but it was nice to have it all brought together in one package. I can see why so many people have benefited from reading Clear.
Very straightforward.
Would recommend but probably won’t read again.

I thought this book was ok on my morning commute. But really enjoyed it when the internet bricked one night and I was able to listen long enough to really get into it. So you might want to listen in longer stretches instead of quick bites.

From a colonial manse in New England to a small-town home in Iowa to a Beverly Hills mansion, these residences have taken on a life of their own, gaining everything from local lore and gossip to national - and even global - infamy. Here, writer Steve Lehto recounts the stories behind the houses where Lizzie Borden supposedly gave her stepmother "40 whacks", where the real Amityville Horror was first unleashed by gunfire, and where the demented acts of the Manson Family horrified a nation.

No frills or chills
Revisado: 02-06-24
I like how the author doesn’t dwell on the graphic details. Just tells the story and what we know (or don’t know) about each location.
Still, it read a bit dry and I don’t think the crime pr*r audience would enjoy it. History enthusiasts probably would, for reasons stated above

Historia
Chaucer wrote about everyday people outside the walls of the English court-men and women who spent days at the pedal of a loom, or maintaining the ledgers of an estate, or on the high seas. In Chaucer's People, Liza Picard transforms The Canterbury Tales into a masterful guide for a gloriously detailed tour of medieval England, from the mills and farms of a manor house to the lending houses and Inns of Court in London. In Chaucer's People, we meet, again, the motley crew of pilgrims on the road to Canterbury.

Interesting way to look at the characters
Revisado: 01-24-24
The author does an incredible amount of research for this book! I don’t always agree with the conclusions, but it was great to get another perspective on people in Chaucer’s day.
Probably would not listen to again, but might find a print copy to revisit

A one-time read
Revisado: 06-23-23
This was a book I couldn't wait to read and glad I did. But I'm also glad I don't have to read it again.
The history and theory parts were fascinating. In fact, I couldn't get enough of these parts and would have liked more. The memoir part, not so much. It felt like we were jumping back and forth in Child's life but never had a clear understanding of these dates or life events.
Still, it is worth the listen if you like history and its theories.
