Historia
Sarah Morgan is one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Washington, DC. With a perfect case record and having made named partner before the age of thirty-five, her life is going exactly as she planned. However, the same cannot be said for her husband, Adam, a failed author, who’s grown to resent his wife’s meteoric success as he feels it’s come at the expense of their relationship.

Good story with an insufferable character
Revisado: 04-22-25
Good story, the crime, the investigation, following leads, the growing number of potential suspects is intriguing and well thought out by the Author. I don’t particularly like the method that the story is told, that being, Sarah Morgan chronicling her thoughts and reactions to a given setting or event and then Adam Morgan doing the same, alternating between her and him each chapter. This is strictly a personal preference and doesn’t speak to the quality of the story itself. What made me not like the book is the fact that Adam Morgan is an insufferable idiot who would react to every situation in the worst possible way for someone who claims to be innocent. The end of the book, everything that happened after the trial was over, was good and somewhat shocking, although, not because of who was revealed to be the killer, I was pretty sure who had done it, but the rest of it was unexpected.
In summary, a good story, reasonably good performance, don’t care for the story telling style, most importantly a primary character that makes you want to reach into the book and wring his neck sort of ruined it for me. If he had been likable then the ending would have had a much higher shock value.

Historia
Former Blackhawk pilot Luke Angel wants nothing more than to enjoy the easy life he’s found in coastal Florida. He’s got a seaplane business, a well-trained dog, and a loyal and lovable crew to throw back margaritas with. But when a plane belonging to a friend goes missing from Luke’s airport, local detectives are understandably baffled. Clues are scattered from the Keys to the far side of the Gulf of Mexico, and Luke may be the only one with the connections to piece the puzzle back together.

Revisado: 03-04-25
Enjoyed this story, kept moving, the performance was easy to listen to as well. Got this on a two for one sale and it was well worth it. I will be listening to the second book in the series.

Historia
Thumbing across the scorched West Texas desert, loner Jack Reacher has nowhere to go and all the time in the world to get there. Cruising the same stretch of two-lane blacktop is pretty Carmen Greer. But for Reacher, the lift comes with a hitch. Carmen's got a story to tell, and it's a wild one. All about her husband, her family secrets, and a hometown that's pure Gothic. She's also got a plan. Jack Reacher's part of it. And before the sun sets, this ride could cost them both their lives.

Framework setting up the story seemed lengthy
Revisado: 02-07-25
Pretty good Reacher story, the framework setting up the story was too long, nearly halfway through the book before much happens. Also, the author is too harsh on Texans in general he paints them with a broad brush of being old world, backwards thinking, racists. Once the story gets past the setup, about halfway through, it is good enough but certainly not the best effort by Lee Child. Narration is good Dick Hill, for me, is very good for the Reacher stories.

Enjoyed the book
Revisado: 01-22-25
Well done legal drama. The narrator was pretty good but there can be times when there is very little difference in her voice for the various characters, in particular the male characters basically all sound the same, so when there are multiple male characters in a scene it can be a little tricky to differentiate who is talking. Enjoyed the book and I will certainly read the next one.

Good book follows Jack Till on another investigation. First Till book was read by Micheal Kramer and I preferred his performance over Robertson Dean, the performance was good but somehow slightly better with Kramer. Hope Perry writes another Jack Till book.

Excellent legal thriller
Revisado: 12-23-24
I really enjoyed this story from beginning to end. The story was excellent, well thought out, it never dragged on or slowed down. The performer was very good, I have heard some narrators that are better, but Newbern did a great job with his performance. The story is excellent, one critique I'd offer is that many of the characters used the exact same diction, especially noticeable when they were on the stand answering questions. not just similar language but exactly the same wording. Although this was noticeable and took a little away from the story, it was still very good and I will continue on reading this series.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed by this story
Revisado: 12-13-24
I read Dead Anyway and loved it that was my first Knopf book, so I gave this one a try, figuring I’d like to too. For me I just couldn’t get pulled into the story. I don’t mind long stories, I like all the in-depth detail, and I don’t mind a slow burn, but for whatever reason I just couldn’t become intrigued by this story. The performance was very good though, great job narrating the story.

Revisado: 11-11-24
By the end of the first chapter, I was hooked, thoroughly enjoyed this story. This was the first Knopf book I’ve read but I will certainly be reading more from this author. The narrator does a nice job with the story and the characters. Can’t wait to listen to book 2 in the Arthur Cathcart series.

Another great book by Perry
Revisado: 10-26-24
Good read, good characters, well read by Barrett. One thing about this book was the ending was somewhat anti climactic, the end was OK but I did find myself expecting the book to end some other way. Still, a worthwhile book and another good Thomas Perry story.

Reads like a daily diary of a stay-at-home dad
Revisado: 10-15-24
I bought it because it was a daily deal and I thought it would be worth it, it wasn’t. I expected a book involving some sort of amateur sleuthing where a guy comes across small clues as he ends up being better than he should be at figuring out what really happened, while simultaneously getting himself into trouble with those who don’t want the truth to come out. There is a little bit of that, but what you’re really getting is a lengthy day by day narration of an ordinary guy’s life. It’s as though you are caught on an overseas flight with Del Griffith and he’s telling a daily account of his life as a stay-at-home dad. There is very little action or actual suspense, between those few moments the rest of the pages are filled with the endless hum drum a stay-at-home dad’s life of get my kid up, get him breakfast, take him to school, hit the gym and then to the beach. The protagonist is an uninspired husband/dad who can’t figure out what to do with his life. The wife/mother is a poor image of a working mom, she has no interest in her husband or in being a mother, she complains constantly about how her husband takes care of their child Luke, and simultaneously has no interest in being part of the child rearing process. The end of the story tries to explain this, but only confirms what you, as the reader, probably figured out. Peter Greene is a lousy detective, he gets to a point of knowing a few things but then at the big reveal what really happened, it turns out he knew very little, yes he figured some of the players and some of the time line issues and a few small other details, but what really happened is a huge surprise to him, he only finds out because someone explains it to him, so he never really figured out what happened on his own. Then the last chapter where the story sets up how the future looks for them, you are left with more questions than answers. The dilemma he is facing is real but the author could have tied things up better than that.
