Historia
Thelonious "Monk" Ellison's writing career has bottomed out: his latest manuscript has been rejected by seventeen publishers, which stings all the more because his previous novels have been "critically acclaimed." He seethes on the sidelines of the literary establishment as he watches the meteoric success of We's Lives in Da Ghetto, a first novel by a woman who once visited "some relatives in Harlem for a couple of days."

This was so disappointing. JAMES is, I believe, Pulitzer worthy. This, however, was a waste of time.

Pulitzer Worthy
Revisado: 07-11-24
An Unfinished Love Story is a defining book of an America in turmoil and hope. I grew up in those years. Some things I remember so vividly, others I have to reach for. Once again DKG brings us right smack dab in the middle of those times. If not for this book, I would not have known of the amazing Dick Goodwin. I'm so grateful she was able to bring it to fruition. Learning in detail of The Great Society from the inside out was like sitting in a classroom which held me spellbound. Thank you, DKG. Thank you.

I'm almost 71. This was a very poignant and often painful book to listen to, but I'm so grateful to the author for writing it. Our generation, imo, still carry the scars of Vietnam. This novel walked me through so many memories and taught me so very much. I will always honor our women and men who gave so much. Thank you.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

I've read countless books set in WWII Britain, but this one was unique in it's telling. It was a lovely and poignant story of courage and determination, loyalty and perseverance. Anyone with a true love of books will enjoy this, especially in this time of great uncertainty in the world.

Historia
Elizabeth Gaskell was one of Victorian England's pre-eminent female novelists. Admired by Charles Dickens, who described her as his 'dear Scheherazade', she mingled storytelling and social realism to superb effect in her highly acclaimed fiction. This comprehensive collection comprises dramas and readings of her finest works and some lesser-known pieces.

I fell in love with Cranford and Elizabeth Gaskell through the televised series, which I’ve watched no less than 25 times through the years. I then decided I needed to read or listen to more of her works. This compilation has given me great joy. I encourage people to listen to it. Even though the renditions in theatre form are good, I prefer the reading of the actual text. Well worth the purchase, and I can’t wait to read more from this brilliant author. I also very much enjoyed the conversation at the end. It gave me needed insight into the woman behind the author!

And yet, another brilliant book by Ms. Albanese. I will urge all my book-loving, artist and history buff friends to read this fascinating story. I listened to Hester twice, back to back. I feel like I might repeat that with Stolen Beauty. My gratitude to the author for writing such a meaningful tome.

It has been a long time since I've read, actually listened to, a book so compelling. I did not want it to end. The Scarlet Letter is my favorite classic, which I first read in High School. The author has created enchantment and I will listen to it again, possibly right away. ×××××

Historia
Mike Rinder’s parents began taking him to their local Scientology center when he was five years old. After high school, he signed a billion-year contract and was admitted into Scientology’s elite inner circle, the Sea Organization. Brought to founder L. Ron Hubbard’s yacht and promised training in Hubbard’s most advanced techniques, Rinder was instead put to work swabbing the decks. Still, Rinder bought into the doctrine that his personal comfort was secondary to the higher purpose of Hubbard’s world-saving mission.

The Horror of Scientology Exposed
Revisado: 11-13-22
Thank you wholly and fully, Mike Rinder, for this book. I found it to be many things: compelling, honest, heart-breaking, excruciatingly sad, but most of all redemptive. I use that word redemptive because Mike, along with the other courageous whistle blowers, express hope, regardless of the quagmire they grew up in. I want to believe in the hope that this cult will eventually be eradicated, but in the meantime, Mike and Leah, Aaron Levin, Tony Ortega and so many others who are fighting the good fight, are MAKING PROGRESS. My heart and hope go out to them. This book is a critical treatise on the mind of a cult. I believe it is a must read for anyone who wants to make this world a better place. I found it to be succinct in its' purpose and brilliantly executed. I will spread the word as far and as wide as I can to bring awareness. May peace, love, and hope be with all those who are trying their best to defeat the evil of the cult of scientology.

It’s the eve of 1953, and Aloysius Archer is in Los Angeles to ring in the New Year with an old friend, aspiring actress Liberty Callahan, when their evening is interrupted by an acquaintance of Callahan’s: Eleanor Lamb, a screenwriter in dire straits. After a series of increasingly chilling events—mysterious phone calls, the same blue car loitering outside her house, and a bloody knife left in her sink—Eleanor fears that her life is in danger, and she wants to hire Archer to look into the matter. Archer suspects that Eleanor knows more than she’s saying.
