I've enjoyed other works by the author but I've gotten almost halfway through this one and I'm done. I can't figure out if there is even a point to the story. There is no characterization at all - it is just one long chat thread between people I know nothing about who are finding bugs in a video game. Maybe it gets interesting later?

Book 1 was filled with adventure and humor and this book follows suit, except that the storytelling and pacing is even better. I really liked that we get to see Fergus spend time with the ship makers, his found family. The ending was perfect!

This is a light romantic fantasy with characters that make rational decisions, a somewhat damaged assassin/warrior prince, and an adorable slow burn romance. Highly recommend if you are looking for a quick read that will make you smile (and make you wish for elven shiny hair magic). Also, note that the book doesn't exactly end on a cliffhanger, but it isn't a standalone so you are going to want to pick up book 2 (and book 3 whenever it comes out).

Thanks to the author for a free copy of the audiobook. I had already read and enjoyed the ebook and it was great to experience the story in an audio format.

Firefight was a great sequel to Steelheart, with lots of action, evil epics, cool gadgets, and even a bit of romance. The story continues a few months after the events of Steelheart, with Prof, Tia, and David investigating a threat in Babylon Restored, a sunken tent city in what used to be Manhattan. Instead of the underground tunnels and rooms frozen in steel we've become accustomed to in Newcago, we get rope bridges stringing between skyscraper roofs where practically everything glows in the dark.

My favorite parts of the story are David's interactions with Megan, though those moments are few and far between in this book. For that reason, I liked Steelheart a bit better. Steelheart has more Megan in it, and also has more fun secondary characters. I just never really warmed to Val, XL, and Mizzy since they were kind of annoying at times and were not as lovable as Cody and Abraham.

The audiobooks produced for the series so far are some of the best I've listened to. The narrator does a spectacular job and it is definitely worth an audible credit.

Looking forward to book 3!

Tower Lord was an incredible listen and in many ways I liked it even better than Blood Song (something I wasn't sure was possible). In this book we get five different POVs rather than the one (or two if you count Vernier) from Blood Song. I expected to miss having Vaelin in the spotlight, but I found myself enjoying the other storylines just as much as Vaelin's and sometimes more. I was particularly excited that there were several strong/smart female characters in the book, since women didn't really get a lot of page time in Blood Song.

I loved the narrator's voice, but there were several times when he could have made more of an effort to distinguish between character's voices (particularly during rapid back and forth dialogue).

For fellow audiobook listeners, I suggest checking out the maps included with the ebook on Anthony Ryan's website. I found the maps to be pretty helpful in keeping track of where the characters were throughout the book.

I anxiously await Book 3 :-).
