So so - characters lacked depth

I usually like Kristin Hannah’s books but this one did not hit the spot for me. We heard a lot of the thoughts inside the heads of the characters, but in my opinion, the main characters lacked depth and I did not find them interesting. As for the story, I have similar medical issues addressed in the book, but I can’t relate to how things played out in this story. This is probably just a personal thing. I believe that others may have a different take and I respect that.

Tedious due to the narration by Xe Sands

I wanted to like this book, but Xe Sands seems to have one style and one style only. Her narration fits some of the characters of some of the books I've heard her in, but not for this character Kate. Kate is morose and depressed and Xe's voice is animated, and confident for someone so depressed. It just didn't feel authentic and was so annoying, I could not concentrate on the story. I'm sorry I paid for it as it is not fun to listen to, and I can't even tell if the story is good due to the irritating narration of the character of Kate.

I cannot take the animal abuse described

The stunningly violent animal abuse described in the early chapters had me reaching for my phone to turn it off! There is no way I can go on. If you are disturbed by detailed descriptions of animal abuse, I caution you from reading this book. I love every book Julia Whalen narrates, but this I could not take and I abruptly stopped.

Cute. Good vocabulary words. Great narration.

This is a cute little book. Julia Whelan is the best narrator, so no matter the content, I choose books she narrates. The story is sweet - and I most enjoyed the expansive vocabulary. Really. It inspires me to read more of the classics as the protagonist did.

I really cared about all the characters

What a wonderful audiobook! We all knew Julia Whelan was among the best narrators, but she is a fantastic author, as well. Each character’s personality is defined and intriguing and I could easily keep track. I cared about them and the details of their backstories. Because Julia is such a great narrator, I absolutely forgot I was listening to an audiobook. She had such definition to each character and a distinct different vocal quality for the characters and the narration.

The story is quite interesting - some of it is very sad - this is an emotional book which includes loss and disappointment. I could go on and on. I’ll probably listen to it again, that’s how good it was.

Supreme continuance of The Family Upstairs

Happy-go-lucky, short and sweet

What a joy!

Oh my, this was such fun to listen to! The story takes place all in one day. The actors were so perfect and it really felt like they were truly the real characters having the actual conversations and experiences moment by moment. It’s as if someone was recording actual people in a day in their lives. Just wonderful in every way. 😊
