Historia
The murder of brutal landowner Fyodor Karamazov changes the lives of his sons irrevocably: Mitya, the sensualist, whose bitter rivalry with his father immediately places him under suspicion for parricide; Ivan, the intellectual, driven to breakdown; the spiritual Alyosha, who tries to heal the family's rifts; and the shadowy figure of their bastard half-brother, Smerdyakov. Dostoyevsky's dark masterwork evokes a world where the lines between innocence and corruption, good and evil, blur and everyone's faith in humanity is tested.

GREAT performance!
Revisado: 01-10-25
Honestly, if you're not an Lit major, probably not for you. A la Moby Dick or Les Mis, the book is overly wordy and while quite enjoyable in some respects, just drones on and on in so many places. If not for the AMAZING performance of the narrator I don't think I would have made it, even then I barely did so.

John Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors and multiple times while listening to this audiobook I thought to myself that if somebody had told me that this was an unpublished Steinbeck novel I totally would have believed it, it just really has that same cadence and storytelling vibe. I really liked this book!

On the night she meets Jonathan Alkaitis, a hooded figure scrawls a message on the lobby's glass wall: Why don’t you swallow broken glass. Overrated, really wanted to like it
Revisado: 08-03-24
I got this because so many people were talking about it, but in the end there just wasn't much to it. There are some stories out there that are exceptional because of the storytelling and don't rely on having an action-packed story to tell, unfortunately this one does not meet that criteria. I just didn't care that much about the characters and that's what needed to happen in this book to make it interesting.

Historia
In the world of Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath―which can be sold and collected by others, then used to Awaken objects and even corpses to do their bidding. A few individuals who die in glory return as gods, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their mortal lives―and are enthroned in the Court of Gods in Hallandren’s capital. To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Historia
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Why, why do people say this is s good book?
Revisado: 12-07-22
It seems to me that this book is a prime example of an author that decides to flesh out their story with as many unnecessary words as possible to the point where you don't even know what's going on.

Oh, I needed this!
Revisado: 03-13-22
Went to a health coaching retreat with my wife and this one of two books we were supposed to read before we got there...of course I didn't read it. Anyway, I started listening to it during my morning beach runs while there and this book is AMAZING. I used the bookmark button heavily and just finished going through those and putting notes in my phone. Short, to the point, useful book!
