Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

I seriously have no words. How this woman was able to write such an incredibly horrific story in such a beautiful way that takes your breath away is truly astounding.
An absolute must read. Absolutely incredible.

A year ago a boy was found murdered at a girlsʼ boarding school, and the case was never solved. Detective Stephen Moran has been waiting for his chance to join Dublin’s Murder Squad when 16-year-old Holly Mackey arrives in his office with a photo of the boy with the caption: “I know who killed him". Stephen joins with Detective Antoinette Conway to reopen the case - beneath the watchful eye of Holly’s father, fellow detective Frank Mackey. The private underworld of teenage girls turns out to be more mysterious and more dangerous than the detectives imagined.

Incredibly disappointing
Revisado: 09-09-14
Tana French is by far my favorite author. I've read all her other books more times than I can count and could hardly wait any longer for her next one. Disappointed beyond belief. Lara Hutchison was simply horrible. I hated to give the performance rating two stars because Stephen Hogan was excellent, as he was in Broken Harbour. Each of French's books so far has been written in the first person and explored the narrating detective's life, thoughts, and psyche thoroughly and perfectly. Detective Moran did narrate in first person but you never got to know who he was or what he was about, and more time was spent on the ridiculous story of the girls. Although the story was bad, it was well written, as I don't think Tana French is capable of writing poorly. I hope she returns to the old theme of writing from the detective's perspective and crafting another amazing story. This wasn't it.

Revisado: 01-25-14
Can not believe that Brian Freeman wrote this. I have not one good thing to say about this. Besides having had it figured out in the first couple of hours, it is like watching a really bad Lifetime movie. Extremely disappointed after reading his other books.

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

Don't make my mistake!
Revisado: 02-25-13
I bought this book a long time ago and quit listening a couple of hours into it. Mainly I couldn't get past Owen Meany's voice! It sat in my library forever and I kept seeing the great reviews it was getting so I told myself to try it again and stick with it....and this is by far the best audiobook I have listened to. Absolutely incredible in every way. Funny thing is I can't imagine reading it instead of listening to it because...Owen Meany's voice! It was perfect!
I will listen to this one many times over and cherish it more each time. SO much more to this book than I realized. My first John Irving book. I will now listen to his others but I can't imagine any others being better than this. Phenomenal.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Great story...worst ending EVER
Revisado: 02-05-13
I almost quit on this after the first third of the story. So glad I stuck with it. Sick and twisted and dark isn't what I care for but I tried it after reading all the hype. I get the hype. Great story keeps you engaged, once you see what's going on, but of all possible endings, this was the worst one. Can't take away a star for that though.

Historia
From the London pop scene, to the opera stages of Europe; from a tiny Greek island, to a stifling manor house full of secrets and deceptions; from the sun-drenched Queensland coast, to the silent outback; Angela and Ellie are two women both looking for something. One in search of her identity and her memory; the other in search of the love that she had and lost; theirs is a duet whose last note will not be sung until the heart-stopping climax, when a shadow from the past returns to claim them both.

Historia
In Rachel Hore's A Place of Secrets, auction house appraiser Jude leaves London for her dream job at Starbrough Hall, an estate in the countryside, examining and pricing the manuscripts and instruments of an eighteenth-century astronomer. She is welcomed by Chantal Wickham and Jude feels close to the old woman at once: they have both lost their husbands. Hard times have forced the Wickham family to sell the astronomer's work, their land and with it, the timeworn tower that lies nearby. The tower was built as an observatory for astronomer Anthony Wickham and his daughter Esther, and it served as the setting for their most incredible discoveries.

I was so in love with The Forgotten Garden I got Kate Morton's other books and was less than thrilled. When this one came out I was apprehensive. I am SO glad I got it. It's actually better than The Forgotten Garden.
Written in the same style, the characters are perfectly developed, as is the story. Great story, perfect narration. A great read that I was so sorry to see end. Just perfect!

I had just finished Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and was blown away. I immediately bought this because I was so impressed by the author's writing style. I really wanted to like this. It is well written, but it's just not for me. Didn't even finish listening. I will definitely try another Jess Walter book though.

Almost as good as The Help
Revisado: 09-29-12
I bought this book after finishing The Help. I saw Bahni Turpin listed as a narrator and I enjoyed her so much in The Help. Other reviewers compared this book to The Help. I find it hard to compare the two. It is such a different set of circumstances from a different era.
Sad story but a good one.
