Historia
For much of his career, Dr. Mark Epstein kept his beliefs as a Buddhist separate from his work as a psychiatrist. But as he became more forthcoming with his patients about his personal spiritual leanings, he was surprised to find how many of them were eager to learn more. The divisions between the psychological, emotional, and the spiritual, he soon realized, were not as distinct as one might think.

Historia
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

One of my favorite novels, read excellently by Donna Tartt
Revisado: 01-02-21
This book is a masterpiece. My second time reading, and also of course saw the movie back in the day and fell in love with Glen Campbell as Le Boeuf. The voice of Mattie Ross will stick with you. Donna Tartt’s essay at the end is also not to be missed. Highly recommend.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Historia
Stylish and camera-obsessed, Naomi and Nathan thrive on the yellow journalism of the social-media age. They are lovers and competitors - nomadic freelancers in pursuit of sensation and depravity, encountering each other only in airport hotels and browser windows. Naomi finds herself drawn to the headlines surrounding Célestine and Aristide Arosteguy, Marxist philosophers and sexual libertines. Célestine has been found dead and mutilated in her Paris apartment. Aristide has disappeared.

What a strange narration.
Revisado: 12-08-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I know some folks thought the ending was rushed, but I was okay with it. It was a strange first novel by a very quirky screenwriter and director, so i was ready for it.
Would you be willing to try another book from David Cronenberg? Why or why not?
Not sure.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of William Hurt?
Almost anyone. I found his voice to be so distracting with the pauses and sentence phrasing. I did think his accents were great, however.
Do you think Consumed needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Gosh no.
