Good performance, bad politics and philosophy
Revisado: 07-25-24
The author obviously spent time researching the science, but takes a very myopic view of political and spiritual philosophy.
The only acceptable philosophy presented in the book is highly steeped in post-modernism, and absurdist existentialism. Investing additional time understanding Jung or even Dostoyevsky and reflecting that in the book would have really rounded out the spectrum of beliefs that ought to exist.

Really good. Good narrator, solid story, cliffhanger ending. Can’t say enough good things. Over and out. Check it out.

Historia
American poet, critic, and short-story writer Edgar Allan Poe is universally recognized for his cultivation of the macabre in fiction. His stories are characterized by an original kind of supernatural horror, often using the awareness of death as a catalyzing force in its own right. His tales and poems brim with psychological depth and intense imagery, made vivid through his musical language and hypnotic rhythms, which are especially captivating when heard aloud.

Pick an accent
Revisado: 10-08-20
It was very difficult to concentrate on what was being read because the narrator kept changing accents. I’ve found the audible originals of Poe’s work are better read and wish there were more free ones. I can see why this one is free

Historia
Charles Dickens' story of solitary miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is taught the true meaning of Christmas by the three ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, has become one of the timeless classics of English literature. First published in 1843, it introduces us not only to Scrooge himself but also to the memorable characters of underpaid desk clerk Bob Cratchit and his poor family, the poorest amongst whom is the ailing and crippled Tiny Tim.

The narrator matches the author!
Revisado: 12-10-19
This was an amazing experience to listen to! The background sounds make it ominous and the rolling of the bell especially. I loved all of the characters Tom Baker narrated. Fantastic job! This is my first time getting through the whole book and Tom Baker definitely helped in that department. I haven’t listened to other versions but I don’t think I’ll have to because this was marvelous. Will for sure read annually!

Historia
It's 1836, and 19-year-old Fanny Appleton, a privileged daughter of a wealthy, upper-class Boston industrialist, is touring Europe with her family. Like many girls of her day, she enjoys the fine clothes, food, and company of the elite social circles. But unlike her peers, Fanny is also drawn to education, literature, and more intellectual pursuits. Published author and poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is also touring Europe but under much different circumstances....

Not super romantic
Revisado: 11-27-19
First off, I love historical fiction books and how raw this story is. Josi Kiplack is great at putting together supposed relationships and filling in the blanks. The writing is great but the story itself is what made the rating overall lower. I was envisioning something more captivating when I struggled to get through the book. I’m sure Fanny and Wllliam’s relationship was great but Fanny was mostly annoying me the whole book, which definitely showed how much she matured over the years. I’d probably only read this the one time. The performance was awesome and kept me reading on. I love Cassandra’s work!

Amy is hilarious
Revisado: 09-15-18
If you don’t get anything else from this book, a good laugh is what you’ll leave with. There were some really REAL mom moments and thoughts about this generation, society, anxieties most people face, etc. I’m totally recommending this to my bookclub! I hope I can find a good book to follow after this but this is tough to follow! Get it on audible too so you can hear her voice!

Where is the excitement?
Revisado: 09-15-16
I have read the other Robert Langdon books and toward the end they usually start getting exciting and have you on the edge of your seat but this book did not have the same type of thrill. Everything had already happened so the end seemed like it abruptly ended and was promptly thrown together leaving the reader's high behind.
