Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Best Book of the Series So Far
Revisado: 02-28-25
If you've been waiting on expanded world-building, high stakes plot points, and more focus on awesome side characters, youll finally have it in this book. I don't understand the people who say that this was the worst addition to the series when it was the most story driven of them all. It was well written, nicely paced, and tore at the heartstrings. What more could you ask for?

Miscommunication Trope - DNF
Revisado: 08-05-24
I continued this series thinking the main characters' horrible miscommunication (or outright ignorance to tangible information) was part of their character growth. I was wrong. The miscommunication stays the entire series. I pushed through to book 3, hoping it would get better, but ultimately I rage quit this series with a fury I haven't felt in a long time. Almost every single plot point is avoidable, or at the very least could have gone smoother, had the main character actually bothered to open her mouth and talk about it or ask questions. If you are patient, maybe this would be a nice easy read. But if you are looking for intelligent MC's with an intriguing plot, look elsewhere.

Christian Themes But Not Christian DNF
Revisado: 11-21-23
At parts, this felt like it was written by a touch-starved horny teenager struggling with religious conviction over sexual desire and trying to justify it by using Christian themes. It also felt as if the author took the Bible to be just another book of mythology, and used it as inspiration to write another fiction story. When this book was marketed as having Christian themes, one would think it would be Christian fiction. This is not that by any means. Besides the okay writing, the story was also okay. I found myself cringing a lot, thinking how uncomfortable I felt. Did not finish.

Historia
Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes best-selling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

Could have done without the alcoholism
Revisado: 09-03-23
don't get me wrong, this book was well written and beautifully narrated, and it was a wonderful pallete cleanser between long reads. but every single interaction between the two MCs involved alcohol. literally. can't exaggerate. they were always drinking. out of the entire book there was ONE scene at the end where they didn't drink, but it was only for that scene. If alcohol is a touchy subject or a turn off for you, avoid this book.

Historia
A girl makes a secret sacrifice to the faerie king in this lush New York Times best-selling fantasy by author Holly Black. In the woods is a glass coffin. It rests on the ground, and in it sleeps a boy with horns on his head and ears as pointed as knives...Hazel and her brother, Ben, live in Fairfold, where humans and the Folk exist side by side. Since they were children, Hazel and Ben have been telling each other stories about the boy in the glass coffin, that he is a prince and they are valiant knights, pretending their prince would be different from the other faeries.

Enchanting!
Revisado: 12-07-19
I read this book years ago when it came out and it stuck with me. Now, re-reading it after reading Holly Black's later series Folk of the Air, I am so pleased to see story elements crossing over from both series, and it makes the story feel more tangible and caught me completely in its grasp.
Though this was an earlier book by the author, their story telling is still beautiful and clever, and makes the world of fae feel like it's right outside, nearly in your grasp. Anyone who grew up enjoying stories of fairies and things that go bump in the night will love this book and author.

Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan's betrayal. She bides her time, determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her deceptive twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.

Beautiful Ending
Revisado: 11-21-19
I had no idea how this series was going to end. It filled me with dread and trepidation, anxiety and fear. But I loved every second of it. I was not disappointed, though there was one plot point that was a tiny bit predictable. Not to say that as a bad thing, but I do think the previous books were more clever. Some plot points still feel unresolved, and some characters I feel could have been touched on again, but nevertheless, this was a wonderful ending to a wonderful series.

Great Story, Narrator Needs Work
Revisado: 06-29-19
I enjoyed this book for the most part. The plot is a nice fantasy with an interesting dynamic between the elements and the people who wield them. The story can be slow at times, and there is almost too many descriptive words in unnecessary places.
My biggest problem was the narrator, which is a shame bc they do a wonderful job during actual dialogue and character voicing. But the stuff in between, the actual narration, is so flat and boring, nearly robotic. They also speak very quickly, and I struggled to keep up in the beginning and form the world that was being described. I had to rewind often.
The main character can also be a little annoying sometimes with the "I'm just a lowly servant, I am nothing" mentality. But her character growth will be nice because of it.
I think the story is worth it to push through though, and I think this series has a lot of potential.

So Inclusive!
Revisado: 05-16-19
This book is perfect for anyone looking for good LGBT representation and diversity in a YA-esque novel. The author does a great job of showing most sides of LGBT and the ups and downs, and the family life of trying to accept who you are in a family that wont. Also the narrator did a beautiful job of putting strong voice and sass that amped up the humor in places and pulled at my heart strings in others. This was my first book reading a non-straight main character and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great Story
Revisado: 05-11-19
I was a little apprehensive about this book but I am happy I took a chance on it. the romance is rushed but not forced, and with the way it is presented, I really didnt notice or care. the story is also a refreshing one as it doesnt cast fairies in a tinkerbell light but it shows their darker natures as well. this is a great and easy to comprehend story for lovers of both adult and YA readers.

Found myself zoning out
Revisado: 05-10-19
The narrator has a nice voice but also struggled to make different voices for each character, i had trouble realizing who was who.
Also the story dragged in some places and for so long that I zoned out pretty often and would miss a lot of background info or beginning dialogue but the plot also didnt hold my interest as much as it could have.
it has potential, this story is nice for background noise while cleaning or driving.
