Historia
There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

It amazed me how much there was to learn about the most basic function of the human body.

Agatha, bless her heart.
Revisado: 01-12-24
Clever mystery, danger, wonderful supporting cast, of course. And Agatha, smartest one in the room, but in a total emotional tangle, as usual.
Really good.

Providing all the necessary evidence to restore the goddess to both Judaism and Christianity, Picknett and Prince expose the disastrous consequences of the suppression of the feminine from these two great religions and reveal how we have been collectively and instinctively craving the return of the Sacred Feminine for millennia.

Sadly Disappointed
Revisado: 12-21-23
The subject is fascinating. However, the author has to site many different studies and papers to support the basic premise of the book, and the writer doesn't do much to add any flavor or excitement, so the whole thing is very dry. And, the reader's delivery is so flat. I gave up after the first couple of chapters.

Historia
Filled with magic, heroism, and all-too-human characters, Bujold's Sharing Knife saga is both a gripping adventure and a poignant romance. In this second volume, Fawn Bluefield, the clever farm girl, and Dag Redwing Hickory, the seasoned Lakewalker soldier-sorcerer, are newly married. Their arrival at Dag's home on Hickory Lake Camp is met with prejudice and suspicion, as many in the camp deny the literal bond between Dag and Fawn, woven in blood in the Lakewalker magical way.

Wonderful writer
Revisado: 11-10-22
I'm so impressed by Ms. Bujold's writing. She's witty and clever and only needs a couple of words to create a beautiful sunset. And her plots and characters are so real. I know this is fantasy, but without the fancy writing.

Interesting Story
Revisado: 07-11-22
Probably not as well written as the Dorothy Sayers books, but not at all boring. I really enjoy hearing about what the Wimsey family got up to through WWII and beyond.
The narrator doesn't add anything to the experience. Seems like he doesn't understand what the writer intended it to sound like.

NOT A PROPER RESOLUTION.
Revisado: 05-05-21
Fast moving. Excellent grasp of military weapons and hand to hand combat. Not so sure about the science.
It's written from the point of view of a female scientist and read by a female narrator, but the writer is clearly more knowledgeable about the skills his male characters bring to the story.
And, this book just ends, without any resolution of the many, many crises that make up the story.
I'm certain there will be more to follow, the author leaves open a thousand paths for this saga to wind down.

Dr. Abby Corman has a bold idea: open a stable doorway between our world and an uninhabited parallel Earth. A new world we can use to mine resources to end poverty, grow enough food to end all hunger, and allow for population growth to end overcrowding. What could be a more noble aspiration for a brilliant young scientist? But the path to hell is paved with good intentions....

Revisado: 04-07-21
This is the first part of a much longer story. Really kind of a prologue. This book starts and ends on the same day, with lots of flashbacks introducing the main characters and the crisis in which they find themselves.
It's a great set up, dimensional travel, instead of space travel, and the series promises to be a heck of a ride.

Historia
The Secret Lives of Color tells the unusual stories of 75 fascinating shades, dyes, and hues. From blonde to ginger, the brown that changed the way battles were fought to the white that protected against the plague, Picasso’s blue period to the charcoal on the cave walls at Lascaux, acid yellow to kelly green, and from scarlet women to imperial purple, these surprising stories run like a bright thread throughout history. In this book, Kassia St. Clair has turned her lifelong obsession with colors and where they come from into a unique study of human civilization.

Amazing
Revisado: 04-02-21
I've always loved colors, but it never occurred to me how complicated it can be to come up with the pigments and dyes for all the colors we have become accustomed to in the 21st century.
