Historia

Vivid imagery and voice; a timeless story set in two eras
Revisado: 10-04-19
As a period piece of two eras, mid-eighties and 2007-2008, the story is engrossing in its descriptions and writer’s voice. It links the GenX baby-bust generation with the Millennial generation with common language, understanding and interest.
Nearly melodic narration was lulling and perfect.
Ms. Rinwald’s translation was perfect in sound and expression: « jamais ai-je senti aussi repu d’une traduction si séduisante »
I hope to enjoy more in the future.

A perfect collaboration between the author’s writing voices and the voices of the narrator.
A great romance with entertaining twists in the personalities of the main and the supporting characters that is fun to listen to develop.
I like that the differences between the two who are involved in the romance are unique and very human, yet definitely not predictable as the story unfolds.
Of at least 200 audiobooks I have and really liked, I believe this is among the top five.
Funny title since the story is so much more than that!

Super fun romance I am so glad I bought
Revisado: 05-22-19
I really enjoyed getting to listen to more of Alek’s world. As a sequel it’s still a story that stands on its own while being a continuation of the great dialogue between really different personalities of the cool quirky characters.
The author’s voice added maturity to Alek which was great. I liked the voices of the parents best in the first book because they were less assimilated and interesting to hear.
I hope to see and will immediately buy a third book in this trilogy. Michael Barakiva is an author I hope keeps writing more for me to read and listen to. A great romance about trust, fun and integrity.

That is, until he stumbles into Hunter Adams, who is not only openly bisexual, but also notorious for being a player and always getting what he wants. And what he wants happens to be nothing less than Jules. What starts with Jules spilling coffee over Hunter and in turn lending him his hoodie quickly spirals into something much more complicated.

From Idyllic Utopia to Idealized Reality
Revisado: 04-01-19
I enjoyed this audiobook. The dialogue is interesting as is the quasi-Canadian vocabulary with a great narration voice.
It started so innocent a storyline that evolved into a much more real life with its hard challenges the best and worst of the world’s families all face.
Fortunately, it’s a story that happens in the context of a society that doesn’t imprison or kill its children for being gay, despite the threat from the types of world institutions in the story that do.
I am glad to have listened.

Historia
When Beck’s emotionally fragile dad starts dating the recently single (and supposedly lesbian) mom of former bully, Jaxon Parker, Beck is not having it. Jax isn’t happy about the situation either, holding out hope that his moms will reunite and restore the only stable home he’s ever known. Putting aside past differences, the boys plot to derail the budding romance between their parents at their conservative hometown’s first-ever Rainbow Prom. Hearts will be broken, new romance will bloom, but nothing will go down the way Beck and Jax have planned.

I really loved this gay bi lesbian romance and thoroughly enjoyed the Southern storyline with its triumph over intolerance all with great narration with a South Carolinian pronunciation.

Amazing Work against Prudishness, but not super Gay
Revisado: 12-22-18
Fantastic narration and voice with the great self-reflection of a teenage boy, a smart, sweet, nubile cheerleader with amazing blue-green eyes and a brilliant, entertaining story filled with sex, truly omnisexual in orientation, that does not steal the limelight from the loving morality of non-judgement for anything not harmful and condemning of anything that harms others. Hilarious images and dialogue.

Perfect dialogue and narration of a fun story of real places
Revisado: 12-13-18
I love Nick Russo’s narration: great voices, intonation and emotion.
Amy Lane’s story is filled with great detail of real places and super interesting characters that are so real in their quirks and personal interplay- a really wonderful love story that feels like someone’s possibly real life story. I will be listening to this audiobook many more times for sure.

Amazing narrative voice
Revisado: 10-17-18
Ultimately and painfully this is an amazing story that is, in fact, LGBT.
The voice of the protagonist is clever, witty and hilarious. It quintessentially captures the voice of any boy at the physically and emotionally disorienting and pivotal age of 14.
I personally identified with the avoidance of verbal profanity while it so repetitiously f-bombs his personal thoughts, or how the endless description of every girl being hot, because 14 year old boys gay or straight are still struggling to elaborate on these new and overwhelmingly powerful feelings of sexual attraction. So hot pretty much describes it all.
Any mother or father who has raised a rather bright boy through their 14th year, or any guy gay or straight will love the story, its infatuations, friendships and both the funny and the messed up sh—-, that happens in high school and jr. high.
I cannot recommend this story enough.

High Energy Summer School Excitement and Romance
Revisado: 08-27-18
Michael Barakiva spins an exciting story filled with the entertainment and energy of Manhattan through the eyes of awkwardly cool and geeky skateboarders and honor students drawn together in the post marriage-equality world of a summer school romance.
Michael Chernus brings the same rapid high energy narration to the story, making the dialogue and descriptions of Manhattan magic a first crush can so sparklingly see in the early summer energy of June. The voices and accents Michael Chernus brings to the narration weave so perfectly with the excitement and wonder Michael Barakiva wrote in an incredibly entertaining, hip, sweet, love story.
I have listened to it now at least 10 times, still discovering new scenes and images each time.
I hope both of these men choose to use their talent in new works yet to be created.
