Full of hope in 2025!
Revisado: 03-29-25
I started reading this book back in 2019 when it came out and it actually took me until today 2025 to finish it and with all the changes that we are all going through in different third world countries this book's knowledge still applies amazingly.

Historia
We think we know what an autocratic state looks like: There is an all-powerful leader at the top. He controls the police. The police threaten the people with violence. There are evil collaborators, and maybe some brave dissidents. But in the 21st century, that bears little resemblance to reality. Nowadays, autocracies are underpinned not by one dictator, but by sophisticated networks composed of kleptocratic financial structures, surveillance technologies, and professional propagandists, all of which operate across multiple regimes, from China to Russia to Iran.

Historia
Viktor E. Frankl was a medical doctor at a psychiatric hospital in 1942 when he became a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps in World War II. In 1946, he published this book about his camp experiences and a method of psychotherapy he developed. Forty-five years later, it was still named one of the most influential books in the United States. Part One describes his three years in four Nazi concentration camps, which took the lives of his wife, father, mother, and brother. He closely observed inmates’ reactions to their situation, as well as how survivors came to terms with their liberation.

A masterpiece
Revisado: 02-17-25
This book jumps ahead on positive psychology, when back in the day that term wasn't even coined. Victor Frankl does a very incredible and introspective analysis of how the mind works in different scenarios were human beings are put on to test and meaning is the only way to survive. A must for every man or woman interested in psychology.

Ninety percent of us suffer from too much glucose in our system—and most of us don’t know it. The symptoms? Cravings, fatigue, infertility, hormonal issues, acne, wrinkles. Drawing on cutting-edge science and her own pioneering research, biochemist Jessie Inchauspé offers ten simple, surprising hacks to help you balance your glucose levels and reverse your symptoms—without going on a diet or giving up the foods you love.

I loved the advices in this book. Truly recommended for those looking for an answer to metabolize energy and have a better lifestyle with a healthy weight, mind, body and soul.
I would only skip a few of the first info about animals and biology which was a bit tricky, but the rest is gold.

Very interesting, though too repetitive and tricky
Revisado: 01-05-25
This book is about how technology will have an impact in the future, it's really interesting! The foundation made DeepMind and with it Alpha Go and plenty of narrow AI technology. What I thought it was tricky was the repetitive mention of "contention" and political assumptions on different areas like biological weapons which takes a great part of the book. Overall is good, but don't expect to hear much about different applications or AI in diverse industries.

Historia
This book is about pleasure. It’s also about pain. Most important, it’s about how to find the delicate balance between the two, and why now more than ever finding balance is essential. We’re living in a time of unprecedented access to high-reward, high-dopamine stimuli: drugs, food, news, gambling, shopping, gaming, texting, sexting, Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, tweeting....

Revisado: 01-05-25
The intro is just amazing. How pleasure is our main cause of pain. The only detail is that it focuses a great deal of time to cases of patients with extremely unhealthy habits, I guess it's good in case you are into this matter, if not it does become a bit tricky. The rest is great!

Historia
Robert Sapolsky’s Behave, his now classic account of why humans do good and why they do bad, pointed toward an unsettling conclusion: We may not grasp the precise marriage of nature and nurture that creates the physics and chemistry at the base of human behavior, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Now, in Determined, Sapolsky takes his argument all the way, mounting a brilliant (and in his inimitable way, delightful) full-frontal assault on the pleasant fantasy that there is some separate self telling our biology what to do.

Incredible! Ending a bit sour but with truth
Revisado: 11-30-24
I loved the science behind choice. This book is eye opening. At some points a bit tricky (too much information), and also goes deep into roots of psychology. I would have preferred to receive an also positive outlook from the determined "no free will" proposal while also taking into account current positive psychology findings. But it was great.
