I tried three times to listen to this book and could not get through the first chapter. The narration was part of the problem, but even with one of my favorite narrators, I don't think I could get past the bad writing. 😕

Loved the stories! Characters were well developed. I wish there were more books coming. I gave the performance a 4 because the female performer had a weird accent that I didn't like at all. It kept pulling me out of the story. Like having someone sing your favorite song, but they're so off key they ruin it for you.

Was very disappointed with the narrator. He was so robotic and in a constant state of yelling. He was so irritating I just wanted him to shut up and I almost couldn't finish it, The writing didn't help though. It was a haphazard storyline. Painfully slow in parts, too fast in others, too much filler, and This is the first book in this series that I haven't liked.

I couldn't get past Chapter 5. Meagan Brandy is one of my favorite authors, but Hugo Locke was so bad I couldn't listen anymore.

Narrator's were amazing. I really enjoyed the storyline.

Nat and Sloan's relationship as lifelong, ride or die, best friends storyline was fantastic. The narration brought it to another level. We all need a Sloan in our lives! Can't wait to listen to her story!

The stories are well thought out and characters established so well, you feel like you're a part of the stories.

I love Maria in book 3. The narrator nailed this character. In the beginning, Maria comes off as depressing and somewhat pathetic.

However, as her character develops and her flaws, dry wit, sarcasm, and hilarious self deprecation come out, you can't help but want to make her your BFF, give her a hug, and say I got you.

The writing for Maria was exceptional. Very rarely do I laugh out loud 😂 while listening to a book, but the author's writing was so fabulous, and the narrator's inflection and timing was done so well, I found myself backing up to hear Maria's descriptive thoughts again and again.

I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

The author can't seem to decide if the "Prince's" are young adults or 12 year olds. The "Princess" is old enough to hold a decent, age appropriate, job, yet acts like an immature pre-teen girl one minute, then a moody 16 yo, then an almost adult.

The Princes are next in line to lead their respective clans and are supposed to be the most powerful and feared "men," the defenders...the elite. Yet, they can't keep their "Princess" from being kidnapped and then later stabbed, while standing right next to her, along with their all powerful fathers. One is afraid to take her to meet their clan and father, for fear she'll be hurt. He's supposed to be the most powerful of his clan and next in line, but he can't protect her from his own.

The dialogue between the main characters is predominately juvenile. Playing tag? The whole, her being sick/grocery store visit and the level of ineptness of the Princes? Really?

Plus, there are too many instances of unnecessary filler that didn't add to the storyline.

Also, I believe a female narrator, especially one that did not sound like a grown woman, was a poor choice. I think if the Princes didn't sound like pre-pubescent boys, while we're supposed to believe they're these hot, strong, and magnificent adult male specimens, it would have been more believable, regardless of the dialogue.

Lisa Ladew creates engaging and well thought out stories. As each character in the series was developed, each book got better. Heat 8 was my favorite.

There were a few spots in each book where the wording was odd or it just went on and on and was unnecessary.

I wanted to give this book 5 stars, but the narrator, Anya West, made it very hard to listen to. Every intake of breath was so loud. It was really irritating. If I hadn't been enjoying the stories so much, I would of stopped listening.

I would love to listen to this series again with a male narrator that has a deep masculine voice and the ability to create different character voices. The guys in these stories are marines that have seen active duty and/or are FBI. This narrator made the men sound like they still hadn't hit puberty.
