Historia
In the future, nuclear war has destroyed nearly all humankind. An alien race intervenes, saving the small group of survivors from certain death. But their salvation comes at a cost. The Oankali are able to read and mutate genetic code, and they use these skills for their own survival, interbreeding with new species to constantly adapt and evolve. They value the intelligence they see in humankind but also know that the species—rigidly bound to destructive social hierarchies—is destined for failure.

I genuinely enjoy Octavia Butler’s books. Theyre so well written I just lose myself in them. The actors in all of her books are amazing too!

Historia
It is the eve of Earth’s environmental collapse. A single ship carries humanity’s last hope: eighty elite graduates of a competitive program, who will give birth to a generation of children in deep space. But halfway to a distant but livable planet, a lethal bomb kills three of the crew and knocks The Phoenix off course. Asuka, the only surviving witness, is an immediate suspect.

Great book! Ending hurt.

I loved this book. I loved the excitement, the visit to the past to explain the present. I love the characters, I love the concept. The only reason it’s a 4 for me is because I felt, although cheerful, it left off open ended. Im hoping maybe there’s a book two coming? I wanted to hear more about raising the children and getting to the planet, what it looks like, and all of the action packed possibilities that could happen there.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Jumpy and confusing
Revisado: 03-18-25
This story has too many characters, for the first book, to even understand/keep up with. Let alone just the first 3 chapters. While the explanations of settings, people, and timelines contain depth - this may sound illiterate - there are too many large words, and made-up words thrown into one sentence that contain no definition so, I feel, the reader may get lost while listening due to having to decipher the sentences. I even had to pull my thesaurus and dictionary out. Unfortunately I was only able to get to chapter 6 until deciding to stop because I genuinely became overstimulated. I think it has a good concept it was just executed in an overwhelming way.

Historia
All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree, and take over his dad's ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career. What Blake and Amanda don't want is to be paired up with each other for their final project, but that's exactly what they both get when they're forced to collaborate on a writing piece.

Oh my god this book. I absolutely love it. Just the right amount of smut while not ruining the story ❤️
