Historia
Constance Greene confronts Manhattan’s most dangerous serial killer, Enoch Leng, bartering for her sister's life—but she is betrayed and turned away empty-handed, incandescent with rage. Unknown to Leng, Pendergast’s brother, Diogenes, appears unexpectedly, offering to help—for mysterious reasons of his own. Disguised as a cleric, Diogenes establishes himself in New York's notorious Five Points slum, manipulating events like a chess master, watching Leng’s every move…and awaiting his own chance to strike.

Couldn't have read a more perfect ending
Revisado: 10-14-24
Well crafted and thought provoking. This book wrapped up the Pendergast series with a neat bow. Even though the book before was left as a cliffhanger (and then we had to wait) - this was a good ending to a great series.

Time Travel often makes it interesting
Revisado: 10-04-24
This was an excellent backstory of Lady Emilia Smallhope and Pennyroyal! I love that I could remember some of the past/future events when Ms Taylor writes about things that Smallhope and Pennyroyal talk about from the St Mary's and Time Police series. But time travel (don't tell Dr. Bairstow) also makes this book one I can't just put on and listen while doing something else. I found myself rewinding to figure out where on the timeline they were! I also tried to pace myself, as the next book isn't out till December 25, 2024... but failed miserably! Ms Taylor knocks the story out of the proverbial park. And listening to Zara Ramm tell the tale is superb as always. I look forward of more exciting tales in the future, or past...

Jodi does it yet again!
Revisado: 06-22-24
I fell in love with the writings of St. Mary's, Frogmorton, Elizabeth Cage, and even the novel by Isabella Barclay! And now the Time Police, where Ms. Taylor connects the continued saga following young Farrell and friends as TPOs! I tried to do a chapter a day so I would make the tale last, but ended up finishing the book in a few days! I look forward to the next adventure and the continuing story... (no spoilers)

Winner of an Obie and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman, Yellow Face is as timely as ever, wrestling with issues of cultural appropriation, complicity, and artistic freedom. It’s brought to life in this audio-only revival by a stunning all-star cast (many playing themselves) led by Daniel Dae Kim.

Interesting view to "yellow face"
Revisado: 05-13-24
As a Gen X, American Asian, I liked how the author wrote view of things that Hollywood and even governments shoved under the proverbial rug in the 1990s, (things that I missed in my youth). From the wanting the equality of Asians in acting to the equal want of saving ones face. The lifestyle gap of the immigrant parents to those kids born in the US, wasn't something that was talked about much, (my grandparents to my parents), but was seen. The cast/narrators bring the story to life. There were points that were tough to listen too, but over all a great listen.

You walk into a restaurant and get an immediate sense that you should leave. You are about to step onto an elevator with a stranger, and something stops you. You interview a potential new employee who has the résumé to do the job, but something tells you not to offer the position. These scenarios all represent "left of bang", the moments before something bad happens.

The Army made me read this...
Revisado: 03-15-24
This was on the Commanding General's reading list, even though it was a Marine Corps term; and I remember begrudgingly getting a hard copy to read. Left of Bang was a buzz word that we kept hearing time and time again. Instead of reacting to an enemy attack, you need to get ahead of said attack and stop (mitigate) it before it begins. The book also discusses those gut feelings (I had forgotten about that part.) I picked it up on a whim and decided that if the narrator was good, it would be worth the listen. He is and it was much better listening to it 10 years later than it was reading.

Great read and captivating story
Revisado: 03-15-24
I stumbled across Felix Cross in the Audible Plus catalog and thought this sounds a bit like the TV show Evil. I mean you have an almost man of the cloth, who tackles demons, performs exorcisms (not the Catholic Church exactly), and is slightly less snarky than Sandman Slim, but more than a Harry Dresden snark. I enjoyed the story and the narrator - the latter who emulates both male and female voices well. Looking forward to book 2!

A bit difficult to follow and trigger warnings
Revisado: 03-14-24
Love the idea of this man who is a bit Sandman Slim, a tad of Dresden, and whole lot of supernatural. However, there are graphic details of R-word and violations. If this triggers you, you may want to skip this one and continue on. It is definitely a book you need to pay attention; as it goes from now, to the past, and continues back and forth. I found myself rewinding to see what just happened. Overall, I love the narrator as he does many voices that aren't a stretch of what I imagined the characters (male and female) would sound like.

A bit of Dresden, a tad of Sandman Slim...
Revisado: 03-11-24
This story held a bit of Dresden, a tad of Sandman Slim, and a dusting of detective Vincent Graves which made for an entertaining listen! I found this book on audible for free, so I started not at the beginning, however it didn't impact this supernatural tale. I may have to spend a credit and start at book one!
