Keeps you invested from the start!
Revisado: 01-25-23
Hellbent is a fitting follow up for The Ninth House, but if you are looking for a happy ending look elsewhere. The story and characters are well rounded and both relatable and aspirational while somehow being absolutely infuriating. It is a dark and macabre look at secret knowledge and the childish desire for magic. If you liked the first book you will like this, but be prepared for it to get dark and stay there.

Historia
If Indiana Jones lived in the X-Files era, he might bear at least a passing resemblance to Nolan Moore - a rogue archaeologist hosting a documentary series derisively dismissed by the "real" experts, but beloved by conspiracy theorists. Nolan sets out to retrace the steps of an explorer from 1909 who claimed to have discovered a mysterious cavern high up in the ancient rock of the Grand Canyon. And, for once, he may have actually found what he seeks. Then the trip takes a nasty turn, and the cave begins turning against them in mysterious ways.

Claustrophobic thriller not for the faint of heart
Revisado: 11-27-22
While I found it a little slow to start I couldnt turn it off once it got going. I will let you know that if you are looking for an out and out horror novel, or you are looking for a lot of gore, this is not that book. If you want an engaging plot with characters you root for and are invested in their success or failure, then this adventurous thriller is for you.
The story was thought out and the danger, both the immediately obvious and that which was hidden, were compelling. Honestly, I picked this up as something I thought would be a run of the mill adventure gone wrong story I could fall asleep to on a long plane trip.... I now have terrible jet lag and not sorry about that in the least. I finished The Anomaly and immediately get the next book.

Historia
In the more shadowy corners of the world, frequented by angels and demons and everything in between, Laytham Ballard is a legend. It's said he raised the dead at the age of 10, stole the Philosopher's Stone in Vegas back in 1999, and survived the bloodsucking kiss of the Mosquito Queen. Wise in the hidden ways of the night, he's also a cynical bastard who stopped thinking of himself as the good guy a long time ago.

A thriller for lovers of fantasy and rock stars!
Revisado: 11-02-21
While I truly have nothing bad to say about this novel I would not recommend it to the faint of heart. The story is a harsh one with a hero who you can only see as the good guy when you see how terrible the villain is. That said the Main character is charming at times, even relatable in a morally grey sort of way, and clever enough that you root for him even when he is an ass. All of the supporting cast of characters feel like a worthy investment for the story and any future books. If you are not a fan of gore or gritty thrillers this not the book for you. The story itself feels like a fever dream taking place somewhere in between American Psycho and CBGB by way of the Necronomicon. If that sounds interesting to you definitely check this one out.
The performance was perfectly done and I will be on the look out for more from this voice performer and author in the future.

Great Thriller... perfect for a road trip!
Revisado: 09-14-21
This is a great thriller with snappy dialogue and a compelling plot. This is a culmination of two different series though and if you have not read the Jessica Blackwood and Theo Cray books you may be lost. However both of those series are well worth your time if you are a lover of thriller mysteries.

Part Suspenseful Mystery, Part Dark Academia
Revisado: 02-15-21
If you like a good mystery you will love this. Murder and the ancient moody campus of this book make for an immersive world. The performance was great and the story engaging enough that I made time to listen to this book while I could try and piece together what would come next. The author has left just enough bread crumbs that you can see the next part coming, and even though you do it is still shocking. I loved the way this book makes you feel like you have joined Ivy yourself and are listening to Tom and Paul explain there discoveries over coffee. The book hovers somewhere between academic fantasy and gothic love story to all the classics. Definitely pick this one up.

I found the journal at work. Well, I don't know if you'd call it work, but that's where I found it. It's the lost journal of Nikola Tesla, one of the greatest inventors and visionaries ever. Before he died in 1943, he kept a notebook filled with spectacular claims and outrageous plans.

Revisado: 01-21-20
The story is short and sweet. The narration is full of personality and the characters are engaging. I have to say that the structure takes a little bit to get used to but if you are familiar with some other reality bending novels like anything by David Wong you shouldn't have any trouble diving in. I actually found myself laughing out loud to this and rooting for the Chip the whole way through. if you are into weird science, snappy dialogue, and relatable characters in not so relatable circumstances then please pick this one up.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Good Road Trip Book
Revisado: 07-15-19
I really liked the writing, and the characters were fully flushed out, but I really struggled to finish this. The story is intriguing and the prose is really beautiful. If you are a fan of noir mystery or gritty detective stories chances are you'll like this novel. I found the story slow in a few places and the protagonist too sure that he was smarter than the reader, so if you like an unreliable narrator or dislikable narrator you will probably love this. Ultimately though I didnt feel like the ending justified the novel's slow burn set up. If you have a long road trip or work commute this would be a good pick.

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Revisado: 05-05-19
I loved this book. It has all the dark wit and quick pacing you expect from Gaiman and Pratchett. the story is fun and not so complicated that you couldn't enjoy this while running errands or something. Jarvis' performance really made the whole book really come to life.
