Tedious
Revisado: 10-10-23
I don’t mind the far fetched ideas. That’s part of the lure but the sun villain Farouk (sp) just ended it for me. He was just too stupid and too convenient. I gave up & listened to the end only to be disappointed. I’ll skip the next money grabbing attempt. This series has been pretty good thus far. I guess the party is over.

Intriguing but tedious at times
Revisado: 06-12-21
Interesting storyline running in two times and this is done quite well. Our main characters are just a little too dense for the modern women they are portraying. Story is easily figured out a few moves at a time and we are always ahead of the character which is annoying and adds to their looking slow. Not bad and I may try another by this author but not sure.

Made it to chaptetr 6 before I just gave up. I have not finished exactly 3 books and this is the third. Narration is marginal. Story is glacial and the cast of a thousand characters gets just too fucking tedious. I had high hopes but all gone.

Too preachy
Revisado: 12-11-20
Not a bad story...it’s what kept me going. The annoying christian theme was too much. I will check other reviews to see if this is noted. Last book of Dee Henderson for me.

Mostly this was good but did get a little long ‘ repetitive at times. I actually skipped parts which I never do. I did like it enough to want to hear how it ended.

Historia
Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches. In the summer she stewed herbs for her mother, a midwife and healer, and in the winter she salvaged in her father's junkyard. Her father forbade hospitals, so Tara never saw a doctor or nurse. Gashes and concussions, even burns from explosions, were all treated at home with herbalism. Then, lacking any formal education, Tara began to educate herself. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge.

Don't fall for it
Revisado: 08-13-19
This book came highly recommended. There must have been something to the writing, because I kept reading even though I was swearing at the author. How the fuck could you stay here? I kept on going. The writing was very good....the story was annoyingly intriguing. Then it ended with a slam, bam, thank you mamm. Don't spent the money. If you want to read this try Libby!

Scott Brick couldn't save this one.
Revisado: 10-30-17
I don't recall reading any Phillip Mercer stories before, but if I did he must have gotten a lot more preachy & stupid or I would have remembered and not bought another one.
I gave up before the end so I don't know if he found Amelia Earheart's plane or not. Yes, that was one of the many little story lines.
I have read and enjoyed Jack Du Brul's writing before many times. This is not one of them.

Revisado: 10-23-17
This book started well enough to hook me then just crawled along with tedium and endless whining. I did something I have never done --1/3 of the way through I went to the end to see the ending and it too was highly unsatisfying.

Definitely enjoyable, even the tears
Revisado: 09-03-16
Where does The Girl Who Wrote in Silk rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book successfully straddles two timelines and that is not easy. There is tension, intrigue and a couple of love stories. The historical story is very well written and the characters are good. The modern story is good, but the main character is a little bit of a ditz given how smart she is supposed to be but it doesn't detract too much.
I haven't cried so much with a book in a long time.
I would definitely recommend it, in fact I have to a number of friends.

Do not spend your money or credits!
Revisado: 06-19-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Anyone who loves the Jack Ryan Sr or Jr series will be disappointed.
What was most disappointing about Grant Blackwood’s story?
Jack Ryan is such a dufys on his own. He constantly points out it is not a good idea and then does it! Boring in the extreme.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Totally annoyed I wasted a credit on a pre order, no less.....I was looking forward to this 😔😔😔
Any additional comments?
As other reviewers have said.....no more Grant Blackwood.
