Historia
When crusading lawyer Vikram Pandey sets out in search of a missing youth, his investigations take him to Holywell Street, London's most notorious address. He expects to find a disgraceful array of sordid bookshops. He doesn't expect one of them to be run by the long-lost friend whose disappearance and presumed death he's been mourning for 13 years. Gil Lawless became a Holywell Street bookseller for his own reasons, and he's damned if he's going to apologize or listen to moralizing from anyone.

Short but sweet
Revisado: 03-09-25
This is another good story from KJ Charles. While it may not be a long listen like some of their other works, it's not short on the witty dialog, humor, and sweet romance of their other works. Great story!

Meh
Revisado: 10-13-24
I tried this book on recommendation, and while I dont hate it, I dont love it either.
I had a lot of trouble liking Cade at first and even later in the story. I like the world building and the magic system, but I also feel as though it took us waaaay too long to get to the point of the story. Ultimately, not a bad story, maybe it just wasnt for me.

I caught the attention of a monster. I didn’t ask for it. Didn’t even see it coming. But the moment I do, it’s too late. Killian Carson is a predator wrapped in sophisticated charm. He’s cold-blooded, manipulative, and savage. The worst part is that no one sees his devil side. I do. And that will cost me everything. I run, but the thing about monsters? They always chase.

This is not what I wanted
Revisado: 10-02-24
I was looking for recommendations for M/M romance, and the fifth book in this series popped up. Because it was part of a series, I checked out the first book because why wouldn't I want to start with the first book in the series? The summary is written in first person and uses no pronouns. It's also not tagged as being a straight romance. First chapter in, I'm disappointed, and more than a little miffed, but I bought it, so I might as well listen.
Y'all, I did not make it past chapter four. I understand that to an extent the MC is supposed to be a bit of an audience insert, but that doesn't mean I don't want her to have a personality. The amount of time it took this author to get to the fricken point, also explains why this story has a fifteen hour listen time, and tbh, the first sex scene was pretty lack luster, and that's not just because of the dub con of the situation.
Idk if the fifth book in the "series" ( because apparently they're pretty stand alone I guess) is better, but I know I won't be spending money on it.

Working with kids is totally my jam, and I'm damn good at what I do. Just call me Maxy Frickin' Poppins! When a new job prospect comes my way, I'm intrigued. A chance to move to Mystic Hollow (aka Monsters Hollow) to be a well-paid manny for two adorable orclings? Talk about a dream position. Sold! But when I lock eyes with the seriously sexy orc who's their guardian—and my new de facto boss—for the first time, I'm a goner. Big, muscular, and green all over–he's giving me full-on Hulk meets stern professor vibes—and I like it.

It was ok, just not what I was expecting
Revisado: 09-08-24
I thought the premise was interesting and after listening to the sample Infigured I'd give it a try.
Idk what I was expecting but for some reason this didnt click for me. I think I found Max to be a bit over the top and that the stakes were generally too low to be interesting. The author also trotted out the ' protagonist is catnip to all and sundry and other protagonist gets jealous ' trope which I dont generally enjoy.
But the narration is good and the story is decent, like I said, probably just not for me.

Collin didn't think vampires were real - until he met Talon. Talon's fangs are razor sharp, and his touch feels like destiny. He makes Collin's knees go weak and his brain go soft. When Talon bites him, Collin forgets everything - even that Talon's coven wants him dead. Him and his adopted siblings. It's something about those birth marks they share, something about a prophecy.

Interesting premise, but good God what a bore
Revisado: 09-08-24
I was scrolling through supernatural romance, as one does, and came across this trilogy. I saw that it was bundled, and on sale and I thought, steal! I listened to the sample, was compelled enough to buy and got to listening. Ugh.
First, while I can appreciate the premise of secret vamp nip omega man, I generally prefer a bit of subtlety. If you cant do subtlety, thats fine, but then dont beat around the bush for five fricken chapters.
There were a lot of plot decisions that just plain didnt make sense. And because it doesnt make sense, but the author wrote them anyway, they'd spend the next three chapters trying to close the loop hole in their own story instead of writing something decent.
Also, dragging our toes to any story reveal was an intensely painful process. I didnt even finish the trilogy now it will just take up space in my virtual library. If I had bought a physical copy at least it could be a paper weight.
I understand what the author was trying to do, but the fact of the matter is, the author was so busy trying to be clever instead of good that they achieved neither.

The decades-old disappearance of 21-year-old teaching student Deirdre Duncan is the holy grail for true crime buffs—and Skylar Brennan, the host of the Ugly Town podcast, is no exception. In fact, on the mean streets of the internet, he’s considered an expert on the case. But in law enforcement circles, he’s viewed as just another crackpot internet sleuth.

A thrilling little story
Revisado: 09-08-24
I picked this up while I was waiting for new titles to drop in some of the other series I read, and I was not disappointed!
Not only is the story narrated by Kale Williams, one of my favorites, but it connects with another of Lanyon's book series which I appreciate.
The story itself works great as a stand alone, and the premise and characters are interesting. As a true crime fan myself I appreciated the nod to both sides of the coin so to speak, law enforcement and the true crime detective both. I also like the chemistry between our lovers.
If younhave time for a short listen, give this one a go!

A wonderful love letter to the genre
Revisado: 09-08-24
I was a little hesitant due to the length of the piece, I listen as I work so I prefer longer stories, but I needed a fresh listen and I had a credit burning a whole in my account so I figured, why not?
I love this story, it's characters, it's dialog and pacing, and especially I love the love that Lanyon has put into the piece! It was a wonderful listwn from start to finish!

It's moving day at Chez Holmes. Somehow, against Kit's better instincts, he and J.X. are setting up house together. But while J.X. is off at a writing conference, Kit unpacks a crate that should contain either old books or new china. It doesn't. Within the mounds of Styrofoam popcorn is a dead body. A very dead body. There goes the neighborhood.

I LOVE this novel, not least of which is because we get a cameo from another of Lanyons works which I always love, but also because this has some of the best character development for our mains and some really good scenes.

Historia
A murderous fall down icy stairs is nearly the death of Anna Hitchcock, the much-beloved "American Agatha Christie" and Christopher Holmes' former mentor. Anna's plea for him to host her annual winter writing retreat touches all Kit's sore spots - traveling, teaching writing classes, and separation from his new lover, J.X. Moriarity. For J.X., Kit's cancellation of yet another romantic weekend is the death knell of a relationship that has been limping along for months. But that's just as well, right?

Revisado: 05-01-24
As the second in the series All she wrote does not disappoint! I feel as though the mystery is solid and I love how we get to see Christopher grow, both as a person and with the doting JX.
The setting is also just, classic mystery fodder which I really appreciate, classics are a classic for a reason y'know?

Revisado: 05-01-24
I've listened to a lot of Josh Lanyon's work and needed a new read while I wait for the next parts in their series. I had a credit so I figured I'd give it a listen. Man, am I glad I didn't spend money on it!
I had real trouble connecting to the MC in this one. Every decision he made was, just. so. dumb!! I listened to it on a long car ride and found my self screaming at him in intervals for his stupidity. The mystery was a bit lack luster and there were some loose ends that were never really addressed. Idk if this is one of his older works or what. It wasn't an entirely un - listenable experience, but if you're not getting it for free I wouldnt bother.
