this author never misses
Revisado: 08-17-24
my two favorite things about this author's books are the good characters she writes that feel well rounded. often when I read books with characters who are purely good, they seem one dimensional. that is never the case with this author and its the same with this book. also, the plots are also incredibly interesting and exciting, and action packed. how I wish every one of them could be made into a movie!!

Great character development and touching romance.
Revisado: 07-18-24
I really liked seeing Mac fall for Mabel, and coming to know and understand her. His character was a treat, and even though Mabel was very fleshed out as well, it was his character that became my favorite. They're a great couple and became very well matched throughout the book. I really liked Mabel's character too and could easily identify with her and her choices, even though I'm not tall, so the writing must be very good. I loved seeing a little more backstory for Charles and Amelia whose book I had already listened to. It's made me want to listen to it again. Great job as always to the author!!!

great narration and story
Revisado: 03-25-24
I really loved the narrator. he really did a good job. his accent transported me into the world, and he was neither dull nor too dramatic. it was perfect!
the story was so interesting and nothing like I've ever read! I really liked the mmc. his arc was really good and he was so noble. I really liked the fmc too. she was very realistic for the time, in my opinion, while still being relatable for us modern readers.
the plot of the story was also incredibly fun and different!! I really love how this author doesn't just set a story in a specific time for giggles. the history of the time is almost a character in itself. and it really transports you into the world, so you feel like this happened in real life. thank you to the author for all the hard work she put into this really amazing book!!

Case in point, he fell in love with Lady Sophie years ago, but his father’s threats and his mother’s health prevent him from pursuing Lady Sophie in earnest. So when Fate thrusts Sophie into his path, Rafe knows he must turn her away and distance himself. But doing the right thing has never been so impossibly difficult.

exciting romance, full of twists and turns
Revisado: 01-11-24
Nicole Van does what she does best. Romance full of sparks, without being explicit, and exciting intricate plots that keep you on the edge of your seat, characters that are complex and interesting, with their own satisfying journeys. This one is long, but don't let it put you off, because it doesn't ever drag or slow the story down. And don't let the rake put you off either. I don't do rakes either but this one has a secret or two. Do yourself a favor though and read the first book in the series first. it'll help you enjoy this one more since the MMC is featured in the first one as a side character and there is an overall plot in the background you won't want to miss.

Lady Jane Everard cannot abide the new earl of Hadley. The unmannered Scot is a menace to genteel ladies everywhere, what with his booming laugh and swishing kilt and endless supply of “ochs” and “ayes”. Jane wishes Lord Hadley would behave as an earl should and adhere to English rules of polite conduct.

this story has it all
Revisado: 07-18-23
it's well written, interesting characters, fun banter and great chemistry, a mystery plot, character growth and even a evil villian.
I loved Jane's devotion to her younger brother and her attachment to him felt very real. the brotherhood's backstory was also very well fleshed out and a very interesting aspect of the story. I loved Jane's growth as a character and the way Andrew saw the real her and comes to love her for it. Andrew was everything a hero needs to be, and his character had great depth.
I loved everything about the story, and I wouldn't change a thing. Nichole Van truly never disappoints.
the narrator's male voice wasn't the best but I really loved how well she captured the emotion of what she was reading. it really made the story and the writing come alive. as to the Scottish accent I can't speak since I'm not an expert. I would still reccomend this book 100%, it's too good to skip

Great clean love story
Revisado: 06-26-23
a great book! I was hesistant at first due to what some of the reviews said, and the length of the book, but since I loved the first book so much, and really wanted to continue the series, I decided to use my credit for this book. I'm glad I did. The book was really engaging and so the length didn't feel too long nor did the story drag on. the couple are really well matched and very well written. I didn't understand the title of the book until towards the end, but I think it was very well chosen. I was thoroughly entertained throughout.
it's my first time listening to a male narrator and was for a few minutes a little put off by it, and the style of narration, but it quickly grew on me and I think he did a really good job after all. really recommend the story for fans of clean Regency romance

wonderful clean romance
Revisado: 06-19-23
this clean romance has it all. a fun plot, an intriguing mystery, a castle, complex characters, a swoony hero, a kind and mature heroine, a grumpy uncle and a rewarding ending. ~
I loved how the author handled the romance and the fact that Nick was a flirt. I'm not a fan of heroes like that but his character was done really well and the heroine didn't just fall for his charm like a school girl. he really squeezed his way into her heart mine, not only with his charm, but also with his behavior. ~
the relationship between the heroine and her uncle also developed really beautifully and it enriched the book while not taking away too much from the main plot. ~
I really enjoyed how the mystery unraveled, and even though I thought I had guessed everything, I actually hadn't. ~
the ending was also really satisfying and we got to spend a little bit of time with our couple and enjoy their happy ending. ~
Kasey Stockton is a wonderful writer and even though this is of her earlier work, the quality is just as good as her recent work. I'm truly wondering if it's impossible for her to write an underwhelming book, for I'm sure she couldn't write a bad one. 100% worth the credit ~

Revisado: 05-10-23
me and hubby listened to this on a roadtrip and everytime we would stop and get back in the car he'd ask me to keep playing it. this book is so good that even though he's not a fan of the genre he enjoyed it also
he especially enjoyed the character of Samson and thought the plot twist at the end was really well written and he didn't see it coming.
I had already read the ebook but hadn't heard the narration. Noah Wall as always is wonderful.
what can I say about this story? my favorite from Esther Hatch and she has some really good books.
I could understand both Samson and Catherine and where they were coming from. I really enjoyed seeing the twin relationship between and Samson and Drew. I thought it was a really strong part of the book.
we were both laughing outloud several times and thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. this is one I will most likely listen to again
