Historia
From executive producers of The Walking Dead and Travis Beacham, the writer of Pacific Rim, comes a heart-stopping Audible Original featuring a brilliant British cast. It’s the near future and seven years since a comet hit the earth and blotted out the sun. The world is a dark, frozen landscape. And then, beastly creatures emerge and take over. A story of apocalypse, horror, and adventure, Impact Winter is a wholly original new saga created just for Audible with immersive 3D audio that dares you to pop in your earbuds and listen in the dark.

Terrific fun!

Look... sometimes you don't want an epic. But you *do* want an engaging story and a bunch of characters to root for. Enter this gem. The sound-editing is outstanding. I jump-scared myself at least 10 times while listening with ear buds in. I love full cast audio plays. They remind me of old-time radio plays, and I am 100% here for it.

Historia
How much of our daily caloric intake comes from ingesting substances that, technically speaking, do not meet traditional definitions of “food”? Chances are, if you’re eating something that came wrapped in plastic and contains a funky ingredient you don’t have in your kitchen, it's most likely—almost definitely—ultra-processed food, or UPF.

Wowza / The audio version is FANTASTIC.
Revisado: 02-06-24
I am anxious mess, more so than usual, thanks to this book. HOWEVER, the saving grace is the humanity, respect, and love that the author demonstrates through his writing. Kind, non-shaming language in a book about food? Yes, please.
We encounter food every day and we have to eat every day. When you read (listen, in my case) to a narrative with compelling evidence which reiterates that capitalism stinks, poverty sucks, corporations are not your friend, nor should they fund anything related to their regulation because it's a damned waste... it's not surprising. However, I think the depth and breadth of what we do and don't know about ultra-processed food *did* surprise me. I will listen to this again (maybe more) to get all the parts I missed, and enjoy some food and nutrition science delivered free of judgement and shame-laden overtones.
Finally, the narration, with asides and conversations with his brother, make this audiobook a treat.

Years ago, I remember Eisler writing that the left needed novels, too. And we do! Eisler delivers story, foreign locales, and of course, plenty of knives, blood, and guts...all while presenting a side of recent history that is different than what we usually get.
And c'mon... don't we all love Dox? And isn't it obvious that Eisler enjoys writing/reading him? Thanks for another fantastic listen!!

Damn it, Rebecca, you made me cry!!
Yes, after an entire wonderful listen, I still struggle to call this amazing woman Rachel.
I'll edit this later to add more (most likely), but really, give this a listen and enjoy a voice that communicates about life and the THEATRE (insert fun voice) better than anyone today. High praise? Sure, but a whole lot has been written about vulnerability and plenty swear they are doing it...but Rachel Bloom is doing it best.

Matthew Goode is a treasure!
Revisado: 04-22-19
This zoomed by and was finished all too quickly. The writing is taut and while it puts you in the time period, it isn't full of clunky references. It's a James Bond novel, so no spoilers here... There are women, bombs, gambling, cars, Queen and country. Good times!
Matthew Goode's narration is fantastic. I was blown away by how effortlessly the characters that came to life through his voice.

Historia
On a cool June evening in 2009, after performing a concert at London's Royal Academy of Music, 20-year-old American flautist Edwin Rist boarded a train for a suburban outpost of the British Museum of Natural History. Home to one of the largest ornithological collections in the world, the Tring museum was full of rare bird specimens whose gorgeous feathers were worth staggering amounts of money to the men who shared Edwin's obsession: the Victorian art of salmon fly-tying. Once inside the museum, the champion fly-tier grabbed hundreds of bird skins - some collected 150 years earlier.

Historia
It was not common to awaken in a cloning vat streaked with drying blood. At least Maria Arena had never experienced it. She had no memory of how she died. That was also new; before, when she had awakened as a new clone, her first memory was of how she died. Maria's vat was in the front of six vats, each one holding the clone of a crew member of the starship Dormire, each clone waiting for its previous incarnation to die so it could awaken. And Maria wasn't the only one to die recently....

Evidence is mounting that someone high up in the CIA is doing the unthinkable - passing messages to ISIS, alerting them to planned operations. Finding out the mole's identity without alerting him, however, will be very hard, and to accomplish it Wells will have to do something he thought he'd left behind forever. He will have to reassume his former identity as an al Qaeda jihadi, get captured, and go undercover to befriend an ISIS prisoner in a secret Bulgarian prison.

And yet... I hope John Wells is killed off soon
Revisado: 08-20-17
(whining ahead) I really enjoy Alex Berenson's writing, and I have enjoyed getting to know John Wells, having loved "The Faithful Spy" and all that followed. That being said, his luck does need to run out. Or he needs therapy. Or Evan needs to die in his first posting with the CIA. I don't know. It can't just be the Ellis, Vinnie, and John show much longer.
One thing that really rubs me the wrong way: If you had a female protagonist flashing back to high school, it would never pass the sniff test. So I am frustrated that John Wells loving his days playing football continues to be a touchstone for his character. It seems incredibly out of place. I want John Wells to evolve into something more, I'm just not sure what. Heck, bring Exley back and make her his manager. Make him do counterintel in the USA. Something... please.

Historia
On November 4, 1979, Iranian militants stormed the American embassy in Tehran and captured dozens of American hostages, sparking a 444-day ordeal and a quake in global politics still reverberating today. But there's a little-known footnote to the crisis: six Americans escaped. And a midlevel agent named Antonio Mendez devised an ingenious yet incredibly risky plan to rescue them. Armed with foreign film visas, Mendez and an unlikely team of CIA agents and Hollywood insiders traveled to Tehran....

Too rarely do we get to hear about a government job done right, by people who care, and where caring and big, nutty thinking matters.
Here is that story. I knew the ending and was still happily transfixed.
