Historia
Retired publisher Susan Ryeland is living the good life. She is running a small hotel on a Greek island with her long-term boyfriend Andreas. It should be everything she's always wanted. But is it? She's exhausted with the responsibilities of making everything work on an island where nothing ever does, and truth be told, she's beginning to miss London. And then the Trehearnes come to stay. The strange story they tell about an unfortunate murder that took place on the same day and in the same hotel in which their daughter was married fascinates Susan and piques her editor's instincts.

Too long, too self absorbed. The story was not bad but so convoluted it became boring.

Chaotic reading
Revisado: 05-22-24
I like Dorothy L Sayers but the reader of this book made Lord Peter Whimsey into an ADHD addled joke. After 1/3 of the book, trying to get past the bad reading, I realized I didn’t know what the plot was. I had been so focused on trying to ignore the sophomoric voice and intonation the read gave Lord Peter I hadn’t actually paid attention to the plot. I chose this book because I had previously enjoyed The Attenbury Emeralds which, while actually written by Jill Paton Walsh with co-operation and approval of the Sayers estate, was a fun listen with no odd mannerisms. I keep trying to listen to this in hopes I can get past the bad reading, this was my third attempt. I’m not going to try again.

Historia
Our brains do their best to help us out, but every so often they can be real assholes - having meltdowns, getting addicted to things, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. Your brain knows it's not good to do these things, but it can't help it sometimes - especially if it's obsessing about trauma it can't overcome. That's where this life-changing book comes in. With humor, patience, science, and lots of good-ole swearing, Dr. Faith explains what's going on in your skull, and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately....

Her fast delivery, running words together, the up and down cadence is awful. I’m not even sure if the content is good I couldn’t get past the annoying Delivery.

Lower your expectations and this story will provide hours of entertainment. Personally I’m waiting for book two, there is a back story that could be fun. I was thinking this was a YA book, until the surprisingly steamy sex scene, so no on the YA.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Unashamed 71 yr old Foo!
Revisado: 05-30-22
I needed to hear this book, read by Dave Grohl. In this hard, cynical, sometimes artificial world I needed to hear his unabashedly grateful and hopeful stories. I’d been looking for the chinks in this guy, surely he was a wife beater or a harsh taskmaster. My own cynicism ran deep but thankfully it turns out DG is that rarest thing on the planet a genuinely kind, loving nice guy who is still part kid. Whether you’re a Foo Fighter or not these stories will touch your humanity and maybe restore your hope that life can be good no matter what is going on in your own life. They helped me. I’ll be listening to them again I know. Mahalo nui loa.

Refined porn
Revisado: 12-23-19
This story started out great and disintegrated into nothing more than a smutty, adolescent love story. Great for a beach vacation or a mindless listen, I was disappointed with the ending of the book. Maybe I expected too much, oh well.

Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.

I ended up thoroughly disliking Ian.
Revisado: 08-26-19
What a convoluted story this is. I came to the conclusion Ian is a sociopath. He’s an expert gas-lighter and an obvious narcissist, but there’s no way to know if he is a murderer. He is, however, 100% annoying and that alone made people go against him.

Campy humor
Revisado: 08-06-18
This writer is not for everyone. The book a mixture of fantasy, hallucinations, insanity and campy humor. The stories are great with characters that are out of this world, the background music and animal sounds in the audio book are beautiful. But I know a lo of people find that sort of thing annoying.
These are actually radio episodes that have strung together, so the synopsis can get tedious, but the cast is hilarious and they occasionally end up in uncontrolled laughter.and the synopsis is short.
This is pure fun, if you're looking for enrichment or enlightenment look elsewhere.

Easy listening fun!
Revisado: 05-19-18
I admit it. I love ALL the Cherringham stories. The reader, Neil Dudgeon, is perfect for this series of light mysteries. The stories are not very complicated, easy to follow and easy to listen to. Sarah is a believable character, actually the whole cast is except for.... the retired NY Cop. I know, he's the center of the stories. But something about his character is sometimes jarring. Aside from that bit of pickiness on my part these are fun. I like that new stories pop up from time to time. If you, like me, listen to these cozies only occasionally, try this series.

Narcissistic rant
Revisado: 05-19-18
I'm not sure what I expected from this book, maybe honesty. It started out pretty good and evolved into a self aggrandizing story of brawls and beat downs. That's a given in that environment. Like I say, not sure what I was looking for.
