Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Each book is progressively better and better, and considering "The Martian" was already awesome that means great things for the book.
I want to give a "bump fist" to the narrator for delivering so well he made my "face leak" - well done!

Word Salad with the Depth of a Puddle
Revisado: 04-18-24
The language used here is impressive, but it is merely a brief overview that never delves deeper. it introduces ideas and concepts, but never explores them. This makes the text about as valuable as the overview of a Wikipedia entry.
The AI narrator is impressive, but what it is reading isn't.

Riding the cost tails of better books

To have such an interesting character in the hands of a mediocre writer is sad. Couple this with an annoying narration and this is a recipie for a refund.

"He who controls the spice controls the universe." Frank Herbert's Dune saga is the epic story of Paul, son of Duke Leto Atreides, and heir to the massive fortune promised by the desert planet Arrakis and its vast reservoirs of a drug called "spice." To control the spice, Paul and his mother Jessica, a devotee of the pseudo-religious Bene Gesserit order, must find their place in the culture of the desert-dwelling Fremen of Arrakis. Paul must contend with both the devious rival House Harkonnen and the gargantuan desert sandworms—the source of the spice.

Dune, brought to you by Libbity Bibbitty
Revisado: 12-22-23
Basically, the book is an interesting read - with the emphasis on READ.
As a LISTEN, the narration is horrible. He drones and mispronounces Dune lingo constantly and the only compliment I can give is that he does sound like the Liberty Mutual actor when he butchers the language.
re: Dune Lingo - as Frank Herbert oversaw the first Dune film, and Brian Herbert has worked constantly with Scott Brick on all the Dune audiobooks, being able to pronounce the words shouldn't be difficult.
So, fine as a free download but a waste of a credit/cash otherwise.

Historia
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, is one of the most recognizable and mysterious figures in the Harry Potter series. As an unscrupulous beetle-like journalist once said, he's "a biographer's dream." Is he omniscient or limited? Is he benevolent or malevolent? What really drove him in the last years of an extraordinary life? Dumbledore dives between the lines of the Harry Potter books to create a portrait of the controversial Headmaster. We find Dumbledore's hand in every seeming coincidence and consider the impossible decisions he had to make.

Historia
Within each woman and man, the dim cavern of the unconscious holds our forbidden feelings, secret wishes, and creative urges. Over time, these "dark" forces take on a life of their own, forming an intuitively recognizable figure - the shadow. A recurring theme in literature and legend, the shadow is like an invisible twin, a stranger that is us yet is not us. When it acts out in the public domain, we witness our leaders, like hero-villains, fall from grace in scandal.

Historia
Analyst and author Ann Belford Ulanov draws on her years of clinical work and reflection to make the point that madness and creativity share a kinship, an insight that shakes both analysis and analyst to the core, reminding us as it does that the suffering places of the human psyche are inextricably -- and, often inexplicably -- related to the fountains of creativity, service, and even genius. She poses disturbing questions: How do we depend on order, when chaos is a necessary part of existence?

On screen, Danny Trejo the actor is a baddie who has been killed at least a hundred times. He’s been shot, stabbed, hanged, chopped up, squished by an elevator, and once, was even melted into a bloody goo. Off screen, he’s a hero beloved by recovery communities and obsessed fans alike. But the real Danny Trejo is much more complicated than the legend.

A story of damnation and redemption
Revisado: 01-04-22
This book is a fascinating read about a man who managed to go from the depths to the heights in a combination of luck, insight, and fortitude.
So many times people in these circumstances are given up for lost, but "Trejo" shows that there are gems out there actually willing to change.
As for the narration - Mr. Trejo is not known for his Shakespearean soliloquies, but the ONLY person able to narrate this book is the man himself and that makes this audiobook a keeper.

Historia
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Beautiful and moving
Revisado: 10-27-20
A perfect performance by Frazer Douglas. Madeline Miller imbues the legend of Achilles with life, warmth, and humanity, telling it in the voice of Patroclus, who is so much more than simply the companion of the great hero. It is more evocative than any work based on Greek mythology that I have ever encountered. THE SONG OF ACHILLES is a work to be treasured.

Historia
Sasha Chapin is a victim of chess. Like countless amateurs before him - Albert Einstein, Humphrey Bogart, Marcel Duchamp - the game has consumed his life and his mind. First captivated by it as a member of his high school chess club, his passion was rekindled during an accidental encounter with chess hustlers on the streets of Kathmandu. In its aftermath, he forgot how to care about anything else. He played at all hours, for weeks at a time. Like a spurned lover, he tried to move on, but he found the game more seductive the more he resisted it.
